can we have a rundown on the significant educational achievements given the devastating news that Alice is not going to do a degree in leisure with a special interest in horse and stable management thus equipping her to take over Shulas business when the time comes

People not born and brought up in Ambridge tend to do significantly better than those who are, Ge0rd1e.

    Alan: theological training, accountancy qualification

    Alistair: vet

Assorted other vicars, doctors and vets

    Mark Hebden, solicitor

    Usha - ditto

Kathy Perks, was a domestic science teacher so probably a graduate - just possibly she is old enough to have a diploma or certificate instead

Elizabeth - did she get any A levels? Plus some sort of marketing certificate

Nigel - nothing higher than A levels, to my knowledge

David - agricultural qualification, not a degree

    Ruth - ditto

    Phil - ditto

    John - ditto

Tom - ditto, but not at as high a level as the three above

Helen - ditto, but for cheesemaking and dairy work

Shula - qualified as a Land Agent or possibly chartered surveyor, and then as a riding school instructor

    Jennifer - teacher training certificate
    Brian - ?

Debbie - dropped out in the second year of a French degree at Exeter, has no other formal qualifications at all

Roy - degree in Rota Management from Felpersham University

Brenda - aimimg for honours degree in Sausage Marketing with Bacon and Beefburger Marketing subsidiaries, from same

    Hayley - qualified nursery nurse

Amy Franks - aiming to qualify as a midwife

Fallon - some sort of music qualification, below degree level

    Ian - qualified chef

Adam - the academic star of Ambridge - degree from Newcastle in Agricultural Economics

Matt - Ph.D. from the university of life

Everyone else - nothing at all above A level and most well below

    Any corrections/additions?

Alice will be breaking the mould for an Archer if she achieves her ambitions. I for one will not be responsible for my actions if she is allowed to change her mind and languishes in Ambridge for the rest of her life instead.

Caroline went to finishing school and got an NVQ in getting out of a sports car without showing your knickers whilst balancing a book on your head and eating with the correct knife and fork.

Surely Caroline had some sort of qualification in cordon bleu cookery when she first pitched up in Ambridge. Didn't she answer an advert for a bar-maid at The Bull, and start revolutionising the catering arrangements?

Lucy Gemmell nee Perks, from this site:

"after failing her Environmental Science degree, Lucy married Duncan Gemmell, the son of a Kiwi sheep farmer."

After Alice gets her Engineering degree she must go and work in the US or China. Then she'll come back to Ambridge and work for a Smart Materials start up in that new Science Park just off the Borchester by-pass.

    Phil - ditto

I think Phil was actually an agricultural engineer wasn't he?

And of course we mustn't forget John tregorran who was actually a university teacher until he won the pools and dropped out so he must have had at least one degree.

I'd be suprised if Nigel even got as far as Sats.

Presumably Nigel got a diploma from the Mr Snowy College of Ice Creamery?

... and I also read the other night in "25 Years of the Archers" (bought from Abebooks on recommendation of this esteeemed forum) that Tony went to some college or other and came back with all sorts of newfangled ideas. Don't know whether was given any formal qualification.
