That's how she got rich, she sold the pub.
Yes, she bought the pub for 4d (old money) and sold it for £400,000. Marrying Jack "moneybags" Woolley was a smart move, too.
That's what makes Tony such a grouch - his mother and both sisters marry money and never work again, while he is still pulling carrots by hand and paying rent for the priviledge.
Don't forget the large range of activities (dating back to WW2) of which the Borsettshire Police vice squad seem totally unaware.
Forget the pub and the marriage: that's where Peggy got rich.
