....I have been hoping someone will jog my memory as to exactly who were Ruairi's godparents. I know Elizabeth was one, but who were the others.
I always thought that stepping in in situations such as this was one of the things you signed up for when you agreed to be a godparent, apart of course from all that business about the devil and all his works..
I am sorry if this has been discussed at length elsewhere, but can someone please tell me? Rosiet perhaps?

And while you're at it, can someone please tell me if Lillian know about Brian's affair with Shov and about the baby?

Good point, MHS. I work on the theory that nobody knows, and only occasionally get proved wrong!

I didn't know, or had forgotten, that Elizabeth was one of Ruairi's godparents. I know various people in DTA have said that godparents' duties do not include stepping in to adopt/become guardians of the children, but it would make such an arrangement here seem less odd, I think.
I'm pretty sure Lillian does not know about Siobhan or Ruairi. If she did, she probably would have brought up the subject with Jenny from time to time, and that Jenny would confide in her about the latest developments.

peter, kindly do not use the words 'brouhaha' and 'ruairi' in such close approximity. i can barely either, let alone when they're in the same sentence!

I must say, irene, I couldn't decide if they went well together or just sounded like one of those exercises actors use to loosen their lips or vocal chords. You have cleared that one up, thank you!
Now, will somebody answer the blooming question(s)....please!

Peter, I would love to help you but the thing is we might not know if they are not be one of those TA residents so close to our hearts and thus not worth mentioning at the time of the christening. I assume Rory has 2 Godfathers and 1 Godmother as I believe is the tradition but can't think who other than Elizabeth would be the lucky encumbants.

<>(...or even Elizabeth!)
Well that's the problem, Polly! I have absolutely no memory of the Christening taking place at all and was hoping one of the encyclopedic memories in our midst might be around to help out.
Where IS Cornelius when we need him?! Hope all's well with you,

I can't remember the Christening either. Was it a Baptism in a Catholic Church? If it was a Baptism in a Catholic Church I am sure that at least one of the godparents would have to be a Catholic.

I'm spendid Peter thanks. Yourself? I do have a vague recollection of the Christening with Lizzie & the weight she insists on carrying doing lots of conscience searching before going to Ireland for the festivities. Absolutely no recall of the details though.

I'm great, thanks Polly. It's obviously one of those totally irrelevant things I shall just have to forget! I was surprised there had been no mention of god-parents, cos when I took my lot on, I was under the very firm impression that was part of the deal. The fact that nobody else has mentioned it means that, as in so many things, I am probably 30 years behind the times!
Incidentally, smarttedbear, I'm sure you're right. One of my g/daughters is RC and if I remember aright I was the only CofE g/parent and was in fact called a sponsor rather than a godparent. Because of tat, or is that just what they are known as in the RC religion?

Yes, Peter, during the ceremony they're called sponsors.
