  I must confess to being worried about Norman Painting.
  
  I was certain he'd be in the programme tonight. Birthday for both
  character
  and actor. What could have happened?
  
  I sincerely hope there's nothing terribly wrong. I know we've heard very
  little from him over the last year or so, but when he's no longer around,
  it
  really will be the end of an era. Maybe I'll try a message on the Message
  Board.

  I've not spoken to him recently but I can assure you that there is nothing untoward about his absence from the airwaves. It's just a case of other stories taking priority at the moment.
