Is there an Archers omnibus podcast?
I can't find one and it would be very handy to download and listen - my DAB reception is too poor to pick it up during the live broadcast.
No, but here's a recent thread with an explanation by Mr K. of the situation on podcasting:
There was an announcment today that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Trust has approved some sort of "catch up" system for TV (much like LA, I think).
This suggests things are going the right way, but it seems to be a bit different from podcasts - it requires special sofware, for example, which won't work on proper computers (only on Windows) so is obviously of limited use.
What is missing from that story is any mention of podcasting, which (for radio) would be much more useful and would not require special software (and would work on Macs).
Mr K - do you know if today's new brings an Archers podcast closer?
VH (who would be willing to PAY for an Archers p'cast)
There are other solutions soundslikehayley (do you really?)
- you can get software (eg totalrecorder for PC) that will timer record the web transmission and let you play it back later (on your iPod if you wish)
- there is also a thing called a Griffin RadioShark that is essentially a USB FM aerial for PC or Mac. You plug in in and it has software that lets you set up a timer recording off air. Again, you can copy the recordings to your iPod (or whatever you use).

I am no big Microsoft lover, but I am always amused by this kind of optimism. Anyone know what proportion of computers in use today are Windows? Like it or not, it is a very high proportion.
Colin
I'm glad to amuse you. Yes, I know the numbers... but I live in hope!

Colin, Windows tends to be the OS of choice for non-"techy" people who are happy to work with what they are given and not complain. This is exactly the opposite profile from the sort of "early adopters" who would want to be on the "front line" of new technologies like podcasting. Amongst the "early adopters" I think you'll find a higher percentage of Linux and Mac users than you do amongst the general populous.
>Mr K - do you know if today's new brings an Archers podcast closer?
No, the two issues are not linked. The iPlayer is like a Radio Player for TV programmes (and will eventually distribute radio content too).
Bother
VH
More constructively. Keri, is there an address I can write to to try and influence whoever is (at mightily great length) considering this?
VH
I'll get back to you on that.
