What is the chosen First XI / first reserves and what is their role within the team, i.e Bat / Bowl / keep wicket / all rounder / make up the numbers?
I can only think of 8.
Alistair (Bat Captain)
Adam (Bat)
Roy (?)
Kev (Bowl)
David (?)
Christopher (Bat)
William (?)
Tom (?)
I think there may have been a "silent" mentioned Barry? So what does he do (cricket and work wise).
I know Tony and Eddie used to play, however aren't their days behind them?
Thanks in advance.
Eddie only played when they were truly desperate. Neil and Tony finally pensioned off last year.
Other players:
1. Robert Snell (DiY jobs - and soon B&B - permitting)
2. Isn't there a chap from the local primary school
Given the avidness of the Single Wicket, lots of them must bowl, even if it's only bland medium pacers.
Have the ever mentioned who keeps wicket
Duncan was a silent bowler. I think he's still there, although Kev is now the star. I've never heard of a Barry playing in the team. There's also Sabrina Thwaites' husband (Marcus?) who has had a couple of mentions.
Alistair is possibly the wicketkeeper. Robert Snell (now retired, I think) used to be a batsman. The person who helped Sid with the school coaching was named at least once (possibly Barry, but I don't think so).
Neil used to play - he's probably retired now, too.
I think it was Martin?
I've a feeling that Tony used to bowl a few leg breaks and I'm sure Brian was quite a decent batsman at one time.
Iirc Robert shocked and impressed everyone by turning up to his first practice wearing an MCC tie.
The squad is
Alistair
Adam
Roy
Kev
David
Christopher
Tom
Richard Thwaite (not Marcus - he was the lover)
Stuart the teacher from Loxley Barratt
Barry with the haircut
Gus and Zak - waiters from Grey Gables
Neil still plays but is unlikely to be picked.
William has George on a Sunday so doesn't play now.
Eddie still believes he has a chance. No-one else does.
Who is umpire, please? Who took over Marjorie's scoring job? Who does the cricket teas?
Keri
Sorry, you have lost me. Lover? Whose?
Most waiters do not originate from the UK. What do they know about cricket? Does Caroline force them to play?

I would be interested to know why, if Christopher is so poor at shot selection he is still picked the top of the order. Surely Alistair would be better going in first to see off the opening bowlers leaving Christopher to come in and hit out later down the order.
Like Mike it is my understanding that Alistair is the wicketkeeper.

Richard Thwaite is married to the fabulous Sabrina - last 'not' heard at the quiz night, iirc. She was first heard of when she stayed on with Marcus after the wife swap but is now back at the marital home in Grange Spinney.
Gus and Zak could always be Irish or Australian, couldn't they? (we haven't heard them speak yet, of course). The obvious question is how much are Ollie and Caroline paying them to keep them on at GG!

Isn't Cristyfer the pinch hitter? Put him in at the top of the order to get the batting away quickly - but accept he'll fail say one in three times. That's the theory all the ODI sides follow I believe (except England natch).
Mr Davies,
Thank you, I knew I didn't imagine Barry and he is a bowler I think? (not a hat).
Alistair may be the wicket keeper / captain / batsman. Alec Stewart anyone?
So, who else bowls, Barry and Kev and I think, Roy "turns his arm over"?
I think I should probably get out more.
DVT.
If so they would need to have been permanent residents in the UK for three years to play in the National Village Cup
And did Kev play sufficient matches for Ambridge last season to qualify this year?
Sid has said he will umpire the Cup games, Bert has umpired in the past, before that: Phil.
How long have Ambridge played league cricket on Saturday? This season's mentions are the first i can recall.
Lots of questions! I'l try to cover them all.
Yes, they managed to get Kev into the team in sufficient time for him to play the requisite number of matches.
We've had to do a bit of sleight of hand this year to feature the Cup matches on Sundays, as the league games were previously on Sundays. Tut tut, I know...
Although we haven't specified I like the idea of Gus and/or Zak being Aussie.
We don't know who's scoring now.
Shula and her supporters team are doing superb teas.
Barry is indeed a bowler.
Gus and Zak were reported as "Our part-time hotel staff" by the Grey gables smugs - what do they do the other part of the time, please?
Mr Keri please, over here
Who is Marcus - the lover?
Mr Davies,
I'm sorry I asked.
One question, so what does "Barry" do aside from bowl and who the h*ll is he?
I'll get me coat.
Sorry. DVT.

Various Ambridge ouples did a wife-swap for a day or evening to raise money for the church. (Lynda swapped with Ruth and read a bedtime story to Ben - very touching (sniff).) David was hoping for yummy mummy Sabrina Thwaite from Badgers' Leap, but she ended up spending the evening with Marcus someone and they then spent a rather longer period together before Sabrina returned to hubby (Richard).
>One question, so what does "Barry" do aside from bowl and who the h*ll is he?#
We don't know much about him other than he lives in Meadow Rise (so probably commutes to work outside the village) and he has a very noticeable haircut.
Noticeable haircut hey Mr Keri, well it worked for England
he lives in Meadow Rise (so probably commutes to work outside the village) Â Meadow Rise is already outside the village - it's in Borchester, innit!
The one with the haircut presumably has some connection with Ambridge in order to play in the team? OTOH perhaps Alistair and Sid are now signing up top cricketers from around the world and he is on loan from an Iranian sports agent or offshore company leading to Darrington sueing both Ambridge CC and the MCC?
Is this possible on radio?
Sorry, posting in haste. Not Meadow Rise. I mean Badger's Leap, er... Grange Spinney.
(I think I'm turning into Count Arthur Strong.)
Mr Keri, You are never at a loss for words, explain yourself

Do any of the cricket team live in Hollowtree flats? Does anybody live at Hollowtree flats?

I think we've been told previously that the occupants of the Hollowtree flats all commute to Birmingham (explains why we never hear them).

Apparently they do all their shopping, drinking and church going there too. They're never heard of in the village shop, the Bull or St Stephen's. Commuting doesn't prevent Barry being in the cricket team.
I'm surprised that Sod hasn't suggested signing a couple of S Africans on a colpac ruling.
The Kolpak ruling upholds the right to work of EU residents and citizens of associate trading partners. The Village Cup prohibits payment of fees or expenses to participants; Kolpak does not apply.
I think Sid's contribution may be contraversial umpiring decisions.
