Surely Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7 is capable of starting a rerun of the Archers. How early do the recordings go back? 1970? Just announce it as "Vintage Archers" and play through twice a day with an omnibus edition weekly - every episode in sequence from as early as possible. The audience could quickly become as big as for the current editions.I can't be the first person to have suggested this!
Oh to hear Walter Gabriel again along with Dan'n Doris.
What a brilliant idea, they have Westway don't they, so why not? I can't believe nobody's thought of it before so it must be something to do with rights or somesuch.
Yet again I read a posting and ask myself "Why didn't I think of that?"
Where do I sign the petition?
They probably haven't kept the recordings...(were they broadcast live when The Archers started?)
Keri said (somewhere)that Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7 was the natural home of the Archers, and that it had been suggested, but there are similar problems as for any repeat fees for the artists taking part (Norman Painting, for example, has been in it from the start, the real Lilian, Liz Marlowe is still alive, etc).
I believe that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú didn't save the original recording of the episode where Grace died in the stables fire. Apparently the replay that is broadcast from time to time is in fact a re-recording. A moment in history, lost for ever.
I don't see why the repeat fees thing should be a problem - they have to put something on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7, and it's largely old stuff, so presumably they're paying repeat fees anyway? It may as well be to Archers actors as to anyone else.
But i think the real issue may be loss of recordings - when they found a couple of years from the 60s recently it was seen as a great thing, I think they said at the time that they only started keeping EVERYTHING from the 80s onward,s before then they just had special occasions and odd bits.
VH
Why would they want to put it on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7? Anytime a 'previously lost, rare archive' bit of tape comes to light in someone's loft they can stick it on a DVD.....
...probanbly just before Christmas. £13.99 to you, squire, and all that.
Friend of mine's Dad appeared in an episode of Dad's army - he used to get £7 whenever it was repeated

I'm pleased with the support for my idea to play a rerun of vintage Archers. Let me repeat , I dont expect to go back to 1951, but I'm sure recordings from 1970 onwards or thereabout must be lying around somewhere. Surely contractual issues and fees for repeats can't be so much of a problem, otherwisw we would not be able to hear all those comedy repeats at 8.00 am and 8.30 am etc each day, not to mention all the plays and serial repeats in the afternoons. Again I plead with you Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7 is the ideal place just to go through everything again from as early as possible.( Norah Salt? Jacky Woodstock? Trina Muir? Gordon Armstrong? John Tregorran?)PLEASE BEFORE I DIE.
Of course they can.....
.......but they won't.
Kerry can probably confirm that, but it would mean instant dismissal!
I know that the boss of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú7 is keen to feature The Archers more on her network.
Keri
I will take a small crumb of hope from that.
A thought. If we did have a parallel "classic Archers" being broadcast, could we dedicate the vacant plinth (ie empty MB slot) to discussing it?
I'm sure you'd soon get the usual complaints - that it isn't true to laugh, ("An ELEPHANT, for goodness sake!"), this storyline is useless, not enough agriculture, etc....

But the elephant was harnessed to a plough - how much more agriculture could you want?
Ooops, in message 15 I said "true to laugh" instead of "true to life".

Oh no, please no. Just a whiff of 'Me old pal, me old beauty' on Deadringers is enough to remind why I couldn't listen to TA when I was in my early teens.
Then as now I refuse to believe that rural inhabitants in the 1980s went round uttering such
Thomas Hardyesque mutterings.

I used to love it! Living in the NE of Scotland in my teens, it was the only non-RP English you could hear on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú!

Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú is the "natural home" of The Archers? Please remember that we don't all have digital. I can't even listen to the radio properly through my computer. It's OK for a while, then I end up with a cross between Sparky's Magic Piano and that comedian who used to do an impression of a club MC whose microphone kept cutting out.
Hello Rose, that seems to have been unmodded pretty quickly.
It sounds to me as though, this evening at least, you would have got more entertainment than the rest of us from your listening...
