What became of Lynda's campaign against the developers of the Cat and Fiddle? I remember her and Robert taking photos of the missing newel(?)post but did they follow it up? Perhaps I missed it. It's not like Lynda to give up a mission.

As I remember it, her campaign was doing quite well when, before Lynda could raise enough cash, the landlords sold it to Matt Crawford for development. She tried to get this stopped but failed.
Others might be able to correct this, but I think it's substantially correct.

Quite correct. There comes a time when even Lyndy would have to admit that the developers have won. Its still a strange end for the pub as the 'Cat' was a successful and viable business/amenity when it closed. I recall Sid breathing a sigh of relief as the 'Cat's' success was seriously affecting his trade. However, the scriptwriters eventually gave the "change of use" angle sufficient airing to satisfy most listeners that the 'due process' of planning law had been observed, albeit with a little help from a corrupt councillor (Mr Chalkman}......
Say no more....wink wink
A corrupt local councillor? Well, frankly, we're moving into the realms of fantasy here.

She didn't exactly as she and Robert staged a midnight raid to rescue a newell post that the developers had ripped out. Don't remember what she did with it though.
Yes, Robert and Lynda "found" the newell post, hidden by the builders, and forced them to reinstate it in the reconstruction of the flats. Keri confirmed this as well.
Thank you all. I remember them taking photos but missed the final outcome. I also now know how to spell "newell" correctly, which I'm sure will come in very handy!

I'm glad the newell post itself was saved, but what a shame that only the rich new owner of the flats can now enjoy looking at it. This keeps happening round here: some lovely Victorian public building is sold to private developers and that's the last time anyone else can see it. It also happens with local scenic views. Many empty spaces where everyone once could look out over the river/ancient monument/beautiful woods or valley are now filled with yet another set of designer apartments, with balconies monopolising the view, and the rest of us just looking at their car-ports at the back. I wish Lynda had won on this!

The strange thing is that a taxi driver in mid Wales told me many such former rural pubs lie empty because of the cumbersome legal process in de-licensing such premises. Is the situation immediately over the border so different....?
The new flats at the Cat are yet another source of potential new blood for TA. What about some incomers who commute or work from home like lots of villages where Ambridge is supposed to be, but who also want to take part in village affairs like Lynda?
Instead of that, all we get are the old guard forever, and a huge crew of silents.
Thanks for reminding me what happened to the Cat, I'd forgotten.
Alma.
