For reasons passing understanding, it would interest me to know which "documented" Archers, Grundys, Larkins, Fairbrothers etc. were around at the same time as Great Uncle Wupert. As someone who believed that Dan and Doris (both BMT) might as well have been Adam & Eve(!), Alison Graham's recent RT reference to "Phoebe Archer" got me thinking ...
Wasn't Phoebe Doris's mother? Doris was born in 1900 so Phoebe (born, say, 1880)could have been roughly Rupert's contemporary. Howevr in those days there would have been much social intercourse between lower loxley and Ambridge particularly for the lower classes so I doubt if they would have met.
He would undoubtedly have known whichever Lawson-Hope was around at that time.
Of course if she was Doris's mother she would have been Phoebe Forrest not Phoebe Archer.
Dan's mother was Phoebe.
Ambridge: An English Village through the ages" has photos, parish records and diaries, and a whole chapter on village families -the Blowers, the Archers, the Forrests and the Gabriels being the 4 chiefly recurring names. Lawson-Hopes been around for ages, but not a sniff of Rupert.
Doris Archer's mother was called Lisa. Born Lisa Hart, and came from a family of eleven children.
Ambridge: An English Village through the ages" has photos, parish records and diaries, and a whole chapter on village families -the Blowers, the Archers, the Forrests and the Gabriels being the 4 chiefly recurring names. Lawson-Hopes been around for ages, but not a sniff of Rupert.Â
Surely that't because uncle Rupert and the rest of the Pargetters are in the companiom volume, "Lower Loxley Another English Village Throught the Ages". What would they be doing in a book about Ambridge?
When were the Pargeters grafted onto the programme? I had the impression it was fairly recently - ie20 years ago when a boyfriend was needed for Lizzie. Were they known of, even by repute, before then?

TBOTA suggests that Nigel first appeared on 15th November 1983 in his gorilla suit to take /Shula/ to a fancy dress ball. He went out with Shula for around a year. As I wasn't listening then, I can't say whether he'd been mentioned before then!
Kate named her daughter Phoebe to satisfy her new age credentials /and/ keep the family happy by using an Archer family name.
