When actually is Linda's 60th Birthday, as I have mine in June, I do hope she will use her buspass around Ambridge (if they have buses) and surrounding areas and have a rest from her old bike.
I wait to hear if she will be drawing her pension and if the Ambridge Post Office will be for the chop under Government plans.Have a nice day.
Lynda was born 29th May 1947

Interesting to think what pension she will actually get. How long has she been working? How long has she been married? Robert isn't old enough for his pension yet, and Lynda doesn't qualify for Home Responsibilies Protection as the girls never lived with them, so it may not be that much.
Well as Linda will have always paid the "Full" stamp and as she has always worked* she should qualify for a full state pension.
No doubt she'll be off around Borsetshire on the free Bus Permit issued by South Borsetshire District Council.
* when they arrived she worked for Robert's business & when that failed she worked for Grey Gables.

Good didn't realise she worked officially for Robert.
I know aboutt GG but that didn't amount to 39 years!
I am entirely up to speed on pensions having celebrated by 60th last month. Bus pass (also covers the metro and trains in W Mids) excellent. I paid full stamp all my life so get basic state pension plus what we used to call SERPS. They seem to have trouble calculating it though and have just informed me they are underpaying me by nearly £3 per week. Can it be that difficult? They do seem overly concerned with how much they are going to tax me. Certainly more than their £3.
Oh yes, you no longer have to queue in the post office, your pension is credited directly to your bank account. Another reason for post offices to close and pensioners to lose contact with friends.
Norma, Did I say you weren't up to speed on pensions? I just volunteered information.
I will reach buspass age in July and I had a letter from the tax office asking about any other pensions I will get, interest from building societies etc. They said it was so that I would not pay too much tax. How kind of them but I can't help but think it is so that they can extract the very last penny from any income I might have. Re. Lynda's pension. Did she really work for Robert or was she claimed by him for tax purposes? He would have had to pay National Insurance contributions for her etc. I don't really understand how the tax dodge works but I have heard of it being done.
Let's say Robert, when they had the business, paid Linda £5,000. As an allowable expense the profit of the business is reduced & consequently either the Corporation Tax or Robert's Income Tax (depending whether he was incorporated or not). This payment would be below Linda's tax allowance so no income tax would be payable only National Insurance. The gain is on the difference between any Tax & NI which would've been paid by Robert & that paid by Linda. It could increase the net income by £2,000.
Thankyou, I have often wondered how it worked.
Do you get the £200 fuel allowance when you reach 60?
In most circumstances, when you reach 60 you receive the Winter Fuel Allowance. There is a qualifying week in which you must be at least 60, set before Christmas, this year's qualifying week has not yet been set. A person living alone gets the full allowance, a couple both over 60 get half the allowance each.
