Is Alice the only student in the whole country to have taken two exams on the Wednesday of half-term? Pity the poor teachers who had to go in during their holidays to invigilate this sole examinee........

No.
Everyone who sits exams set by Borchester United Matriculation has to take exams during half term. It's the law. They also get to take Eng Lit on a Friday pm when everyone else has taken the exam in the morning.

PS: Pete - I had a teacher (a thousand years ago) named Hendy. Any rellie?
But isn't Alice at a college rather than a school - wouldn't that make a difference? Or do all exams have to be on the same day?
You can take the same exams at school or college - depends on the board. And all candidates are supposed to sit a paper concurrently to avoid any shenanigans!
Mrs T
Do FE colleges get half terms and if so do the teachers get the same holidays as the students. These days university teachers get six weeks holiday plus an allowance for the public holidays they no longer get in term times.

As Mrs Trellis said.
Otherwise whoever had their exam first could make massive off-sets against any future student loan!
however Alice is the only physics student who took 5 hours to figure out what an isotope was. -(Referred to in at least 2 boring Alice is doing revison while her father is visiting his dying mistresss episodes) she skived an entire church service to learn about isotopes, plus another evening - since the only thing an A level physics student needs to know about isotopes is they are atoms with same atomic number (same number of protons) and chemical properties (react with other chemicals same way) but different atomic weight (differnet numbrr of neutrons)and physical properties (melting point etc) - I can only assume Alice is doing some special A levels for very stupid peopel who were lucky to get GCSEs, so anything goes
also I thought Alice was 18! If so she should be taking A2's like my daughter and they haven't started yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alice fought her dad a while back to leave that cosy posh school and attend what we used to call The Tech to do her A levels.

They're supposed to Mrs.T, but occasionally the timetable doesn't allow for this, then the pupil has to go into isolation and be guarded so they can sit the exam a little later in the day.

Yup! Have supervised these students - they usually have a clash of exams set for the same time. However, I expect we would have have heard Alice whining about the unfairness of having to sit 2 exams in one day.
The Storyline Research Fairy is obviously on half-term holiday given the gaps, nay holes, in other lines as well!
Mrs T
The Storyline Research Fairy was away 2 years ago. Alice managed to take a French GCSE exam on the day when the rest of the country were taking German.
I know it is fiction but there is not much point getting the sound effect for a cow in pain correct when they can't even look up the national exam timetable (or even ask a teacher).
A teacher with warble-fly, of course.

A bit more than that, surely? eg whether stable or unstable, (and why) if unstable what likely decay mode would be? The above just looks like O level chemistry.
VH
she's doing physics and the physics practicals were the week BEFORE half term at my son's school.
though his exam board is a real one!
and, yes, he does know his isotopes from his isobars.

He's probably the same exam board as my 18 year old - the one that I thought Alice was as well.
Practical the Tuesday before half term?
