It was stated on R4 tonight that hip replacements last up to 20 years, and then almost always have to be replaced again,if they have not been already.
But active people, particularly farmers, would be likely to need another replacement much sooner.
When was Phil's hip replacement...?
1991
So he's well overdue a new one then, or has he had it without us being told? Can't believe something like that could have passed unremarked. Lizzie would have offered to have Jill to stay while he was in hospital, there would have been hospital visits and general angst about an operation like that to a man of his age.
I remember this being raised before on the boards, some time ago. Along with "Shuldn't Jack Woollley's pacemaker be serviced?" and "Why doesn't Ruth have regular breast screenings mentioned?" which actually did result in an on-air mention (but it was when Sam was informed of Ruth's cancer history. So, how about a new visit to the doc's?).
Thanks all - I'd no idea it was as recently as 1991 - it seems like years ago...! ; )
Perhaps the hip replacement is still okay then. But it's strange as he was in such pain he hasn't had problems in other joints - ankles, knees etc.
But maybe he's just stoical....
First hips tend to last for about 20 years but after that they have a reducing life ie the next one would only last 16 years and the next one a bit less.
If Phils hip was done in 1991 he should be ok for a few years yet.
hey daddio, groovy man!
