    Who's Who?
    12 October 2007
    book

Pubs are urging us to book our Christmas dinner and train drivers are worrying about leaves on the line. And that other sign of Autumn is also with us: the latest edition of our pocket guide to Ambridge is now in the shops.

The above has been posted as a backstage story.

This seems rather advanced even for a publisher like Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, when we are still amidst "rain stop play at Test Match". What say you and especially the author Mr Keri.

That man is a marvel, he is on these boards, SWing, parenting the actors AND writing books. Fantastic!

Um. That was LAST year's "Who's Who." Keri is, as we type, creating "Who's Who 2008" probably with publication date around this August.

I think not the publication date is given as 12 Oct 2007!

I think it is merchandisers thinking about Easter before Chrimbo!

I have a copy beside me, that I bought last year - it's a mistake by the printers, probably.

    Oops. Should be 2006.

I'm due this week to work on the proofs of the 2008 edition, due for publication Oct 2007.

That must be a challenging task, getting the character development at the publication date, when you know how they will be into the far distance?

Then also getting enough in, so that for the reader checking something up in Sept 2008 not getting a completely out of touch picture.

What a challenge for the Annual writer.

Are you open to audience participation and suggestions for early deadings?

Deadings hinted at, must bring anxieties for the luvvies who no doubt wonder about their durability. Thank goodness it is not RL!!

    >That must be a challenging task, getting the character development at the publication date,

You're telling me. I have the long term "grids" to hand which indidcate where we are intending characters and stories to be at publication dates, but sometimes things slip, which can be worrying.

I have developed a style of writing (careful choice of tenses and so on) which tries to "future proof" the book as much as possible.
