I read the account of the Cromford meet and the questions which were set, also the answers. One of the questions was about George's great grandmothers. Among those listed was Mrs Carter, Neil's mother. I thought that Neil was an orphan. He was certainly described as one when he came to Ambridge. That is why every one made a great fuss of him. I know that Mrs Carter may, or may not, have been his mother. Do we know if Neil ever knew his mother? Has he ever tried to trace her?

Neil came to Ambridge aged 16, as. A student, who didn't get on with his mother, and. Disliked her new boyfriend, and I think he had no father, but he definitelly was not a full orphan.

When Neil contracted Weil's Disease back in the 1970s it appeared that he had no family. Certainly no relatives came to visit him during his illness. But in a later episode I remember his referring to his parents who were obviously still alive. As far as I know they have never featured in the programme.
