I just posted a parody which referred to the musician Terry Ja_cks. Of course, he doesn't spell his name with an underline, but my posting disappeared after a few minutes, with no explanation and no email sent to me. The link to the thread that I posted in another thread points to nowhere, now, too.

I'm quite careful about sticking to the rules, and I can't think of anything else it could be. This one doesn't even contain any French.

I've now posted the parody a second time, but I expect that it will disappear, too, because the name "Ja_cks" appears twice, and I forgot to modify the second occurrence.

Is Terry Ja_cks never to be mentioned here? Is the children's game of the same name banned from Mustardland? Is this really necessary?

    Yours truly,

    Fuming

Could someone have thought you were breaching copyright, Piers? Difficult to understand otherwise.

Ha, ha, best laugh I've had all day, Piers. Thank you.

Glad you were amused, Mike. Actually, Dragonfly was correct; they thought I was breaching someone's copyright. Apparently, the moderator believes that the song "Seasons in the Sun" treats of people named Brian, Siobhan, Jenny, Ruairi, and Alice.

I have now wasted a very large amount of time on this and am even more annoyed. I am not a plagiarist!

If you have any difficulty, Piers, email keri.davies@bbc.co.uk and he should be able to sort it out for you. Not So Tiny Tim was modded for being rude about a TA character on grounds that it was libellous, so they have form on this.

I've written to Mr. Keri, thanks. I hope he has a halibut handy for sorting out moderators.

This really set me off, and I think I may have gotten it a bit out of proportion. Anyway, the second posting is still there, as of this writing.
If it were possible here, I would have a nice of cup of tea.

Oh, dear. After all the things I've done to the characters, they may bang me up for life.

I don't believe it! That moderator removed it again! I have complained again and written to Mr. Keri. This really is too much. It's getting to the point where I wonder whether it's worth it.

It may be of little satisfaction Piers, but they are very inconsistent. My parody of "Leaving on a Jetplane" only changed about 4 lines and got though. And my last "Borsetshire Lass" only one word, I think - but that's maybe not in copyright. I think it depends very much on who's on duty and how bored they are.

This all seems utterly silly. Half the pleasure of parodying is, for me, to change as few words as possible while changing the meaning completely.

As of July 5, 10:30 AM German time, no one has contacted me to put things right, and my completely legal and harmless parody is still hidden.

I hope someone does put it right, so I don't want to say too much now. I really don't want to leave Mustardland, but this may be the last straw.

These are the things that bother me:

    1. High-handed behavior on the part of moderators.

    2. The flea.

    3. The impossibility of editing posts.

    Piers

Your crossness about this understandable, I hope that your post is revealed soon (I'm on tenterhooks!) but I hope you don't leave, I would miss your parodies a lot

I don't know the UK situation, but in the US where some of the most litigious people in the World reside, parody is still recognised under their constitution as an example of "protected speech" and thus you cannot be sued by a person you parodied and neither can they force a newspaper or website to take down a parody.

Wholly off topic, but in the same vein, the other thing that impressed me about that most litigious country was the casual (and common sense) attitude to walking across railway lines - even in the Boston underground!

Thank you, Vicarshusband. I've now reposted it. I had also posted it in the "Fantasy Archers" board at Peet's Place yesterday, but only mentioned this is the "No Subject" thread. Sorry to keep you waiting.

By the way, don't walk across railroad lines in the Chicago area. They use a third rail rather than overhead lines, and you could electrocute yourself!

Yes, this is one good way of writing a parody. Sometimes it's remarkable how much difference changing just a couple of words can make. Most of mine are not like this, however.

I received an apology from Mr. Keri in reply to one message to him and reposted the parody. I then checked my other mailer and found a more detailed answer in reply to a second message. In the meantime, my parody has been removed for a third time.

I think this is disgraceful treatment and I am thoroughly fed up.

I will consider whether to stay here at all, but unless there is some action, I will not post any more parodies here.

I'm very sorry about this. I can't find any complaints about the post in question (I should be mailed a copy automatically) so I can only assume a moderator is acting on his/her own initiative. I'll take it up with the central team.

Thank you. I don't blame you, of course.

Nor did I get an email. It simply disappeared a few minutes after I posted it. It was about 8:45 PM British time (9:45 PM here).

Thank you, please do. I've made one final attempt. If it's deleted, I'll be complaining about the moderator (not about you!) to the site administration.

Such a shame. I've really enjoyed posting here. Unfortunately, it's not the first time I've had occasion to be angry about the moderation.
