    Some years ago I remember listening late one Sunday night to a four part series (four parts or so) about the history of the Mediterranean in the time of the Crusades and after. Ottoman Empire. Sea going galleys. You get the picture.

    And through all the historic haze came the unmistakeable voice of the late Haydn Jones who played the part of a Doge of Venice. Am I havering here? Does anyone else have a memory of that series? And the then Joe Grundy popping up in such an unexpected guise.

    Life throughs up a few moments of pure rapture. That was one for me. I just hope I am not making it all up.
