I have never heard of anyone called Clarrie. Is this the name she was born with or is it short for something? Ta x
Clarissa?
bob
She had an Aunt Clarice, who was (I think) her mother, Lizzie's sister. Could have been Jethro's sister. So have always presumed she's a Clarice (like Clarice Cliff) but, of course, unless we heard it on air ...

Thanks. Have heard of Clarissa but not Clarice. Will pop over to family tree to see if anything there.
Clarice Cliff was a potter. This gives info:

I thought Clarice was Clarrie's Grandma Mabel's sister. I'm almost sure it was Ned, rather than Jethro, whose life seemed to be perpetually blighted by her.
Reg
from TBOTA:
"LARKIN, MABEL, (NEÉ BRACKEN)
d.July 1983
Mabel was Ned Larkin's wife. They had five children, who all married, and she had an elder sister called Clarice, who lived in Hollerton with her husband Fred."
Of course, Reg [ or do you prefer to be (Reg)? ] you are quite correct, I was far too vague and wrong.
Thanks for the clarification Rosie.
Ooh, you've taken this blow hard, Rosie...

He was short of change for the phone, as I remember it.
What's ET short for? first and last letters of Elliot, I thought?
Thank you RosieT and all others. Clarice is quite a pretty name actually.
it's short for Clarinder. Her parents were going through a Sikh phase when she was born.
Why should Clarrie be short for anything? I have a grand daughter named Katy - short for nothing at all - its just Katy.
I well remember Ned and Fred's antics way back. Both were henpecked, but Fred more than Ned. Clarrice was a real dragon who hated to see Fred have any fun.
Must admit I always thought it was short for 'Clarion', as apart from Radio Carter (and possibly Lynda "I shouldn't really say this, but I'm going to" Snell) she is by far the best disseminator of news, true or otherwise, in the whole of Ambridge and therefore probably in the whole of Borsetshire!)
I thought it was Claribel. It's definitely short for something, the long version has been mentioned on air within my memory, but unfortunately I can't recall for certain what it was. I'm pretty sure it's not Clarissa or Clarice though.
Alma.
