At about 1:20pm on Monday 24th my name was suddenly chopped to "U38364". I assume this was a unilateral decision on The Archers board, since a couple of other "long names" disappeared at the same time, at least one of which isn't an h2g2 user, so TA is all we have in common.

This name is my h2g2 name, and it is important to me. I have reset it in h2g2 and will be most upset if TA board screws with it again. If you want shorter names on your board, give us the option to enter a different nickname for each board - this "Single Sign-on" has been an absolute pain from the very outset.

Oh, btw, if the Mods sent out emails I won't be getting them; my mail provider has died, so the "MyFlat" address I signed up with has turned into a black hole that swallows messages without delivering or bouncing them. smiley - sadface

You can see why I'm a bit irritable... :'-)

I know nothing about this, Peet, but will investigate.

The central team says none of them rejected your name (and it wasn't me), so I'm a bit baffled. It's not a policy thing here, anyway.

Slightly-Foxed lost his name at the same time, and he got an email. He published the email on a thread here and the Mods removed it. I don't know if they've restored it yet.

It's been restored now, but it was gone for over a day: F2693943?thread=4614589

His name disappeared at the same moment as both mine and a third person's (sorry, I can't remember who) with the only obvious connection between them being that they were long.

Could you investigate the removal of his name further, please, in the hope it sheds some light on the person responsible for removing mine?

Sorry Peet, if the Central Team don't know who did it I can't shed any more light on the issue. It may well just have been someone interpreting the rules a little too tightly.

Well, as neither of the names break any published rules that I can find, it would be a good idea to find out who did it just to prevent them from doing it again.

As you have the time it happened accurate to under a minute, can't you find out who was "on duty" at the time?

This seems to be very close to a witch-hunt, Peet. Perhaps just let it go?

Fair enough, Mike. I wish there was *some* way to make these "random" Mods accountable, though.
