When my uncle knew I'd become an Archers fan he gave me an original script (rehearsed on 13 June 1966 and transmitted on 13 July 1966. I treasure the document and it made me wonder how the Archers celebrated England winning the World Cup? Anyone know?

I don't recall the event ever being referred to in Ambridge. I've checked Norman Painting's book "Forever Ambridge" which gives a year by year synopsis of events both on the international front and in the world of Ambridge. The World Cup doesn't get a mention in either. My guess is that it wasn't mentioned on TA at the time it happened but it's always possible that there have been subsequent references to it.

Far more worried about Jennifer Archers baby than some spoting event!

Quite right Rosie, Jennifer's baby was definately the big news of very late 1966 and 1967 as I recall. I can't remember the World Cup being mentioned in the prog, but then again I only listened to the omnibus editions in those days, so I missed 15 minutes of TA every week.

But IIRC wasn't Jennifer's baby given the name Adam Gordon George Raymond Norbert Jack Robert Alan Roger Geoff Bobby Martin Alfred Archer

Surely it deserved one of those rare topical inserts.
Maybe Uncle Walter saying to Uncle Tom in TB "Y'know I still don't think that Russian linesman got it right, me old pal me old beauty...".

I love the idea that all everyone could talk about for the whole year was Jennifer`s Baby. No mention of the World Cup or Vietnam in the pub, anyone who said "Through to the final, then, do you think we can beat the West Germans?" being ostracised, as Ned and Jethro ostentatiously walk to the other end of the bar to say "I think it were that Paddy Redmond" as they nurse their pewter mugs.
In that recording of Grace`s death that they play all the tme on archive programmes, Phil mentions that latecomers might be looking for Burgess and Maclean, so obviously some news reports of the Outside World got through.

I mentioned this elsewhere, chaps. In soapland, people discuss the boring minutiae of the lives of others. Stupid people such as Ed and Fallon talk about rubbish which no-one else gives two sits about.
In this world, people talk about sport - rugby, cricket and the boring game. When was the last time that a sporting event got a mention in Ambridge?

They went to that cricket match at Lords. They talked about that.
And
In this world, people talk about sport Â
may be tue of your particular part of your world, but is not necessarily true for everybody. And I don't think it is true of Wendy Corinne's, Fallon's, Pat Archer's, Pat Fletcher's, Lilian's, Jennifer's, Alice's....

But how about Mike and Tom, Tony, Brian (who must surely love cricket at least), Neil, even Adam and Ian, Alistair and yes, David? Never a mention of a national sporting event but lots about village gossip, who's doing what with whom, and hours on stuff such as tractor ploughing and town crying! Unusual, eh!

Oh, yes, I agree, just answering, when was the last time - and it was a Lord's game.
And, it's distinctly odd (to me) that the 'men' are trying to organise an angling club for the tots, instead of a football team (Bring Back Ambridge Wanderers) since they are pretty wriggly at that age, would maybe appreciate a few more organised games (Alan! a Church football pitch could be far better used, by far more people - of all ages - than a 4 person racketsport pitch!) and could do with the exercise. Sitting around iting for the trout to bite, or whatever, won't strip those couch-potato pounds!
Women! Know your place!
