I noticed that Elizabeth was being snide about Ruth and David's public show of affection. Is this because she doesn't like Ruth? Did she prefer Sophie? Do they have a history of disliking each other?

And Elizabeth has never liked Ruth anyway, for daring to be pregnant around the time she (E) had her termination. Also, Elizabeth has always had aspirations to be Lady of the Manor, and, having achieved that status, now looks down on lesser beings.
The lizzard is vile. AFAIK IIRC (acronyms are us(
I started listening around the time of the inheritance row. Likely to bring out the worst in people( or lizards) and vaguely remeber her being particularly unpleasant to Ruth, but nothing specific.

Thanks, all.
Prior to the inheritence row, wasn't Elizabeth tossed out of her en-suite bedroom in the farmhouse so that newly married Ruth and David could have occupancy?

I do believe you are right.
And, when PhilnJill went to NZ to visit Kenton, Ruth was left to look after the B&B guests and Elizabeth didn't see why she should help. bear in mind that Ruth had a new baby (Pip) at the time. I seem to remember Bert stepping in and doing some childcare.
I always remember that Elizabeth used to call Ruth "Thumbelina", perhaps it was only once, but it left a lasting impression on me.
I always remember Elizabeth disliking Ruth ages before the inheritance row, which only made things worse. The dislike was one-sided IMO.
Since the cancer, I think they have got on much better. But Lizzie and David also fell out big time over the inheritance.
Alma.
Snork, now you mention it, I remember that too Horace. It reminds me why I like Elizabeth, she's arguably the female equivalent of Brian in terms of acerbic wit.
