I can't go on any longer! Why do some posts start with 'Otherwise'? I've tried to work it out and when someone tells me the answer I know I'll feel really fick, but I have to know!

Welcome to The Village Hall. This topic was created out of a need for a space where special interest groups could meet on a regular basis, to discuss, chat, help, support and inform others on their topic of interest, away from the hurly-burly of the busier Bull. .......
To these regular groups was added the initial Otherwise group, originally meeting weekly to discuss issues of concern to parents of Autistic children. Otherwise soon became of more general support to those undergoing trauma or great stress due to health, relationship issues, life in general etc., personally or professionally and specific Otherwise threads appear as and when someone calls for help, or in the words of one poster 'a cuggle and a cuppa'. An explanation for the choice of this title is at the end of this post.
Please note that there are ten times more lurkers than posters about and the sensitive nature of some of the Otherwise posts may require care in making sure one is not easily identified. This is a public message board which anyone can read. If in doubt, create a completely new log-in & identity for the sole purpose of that Otherwise issue (merely changing nick-names temporarily changes your nickname everywhere and reverting back to your old nick-name reverts back all posts).
Al-Anon is a spin-off Otherwise thread, being a support group for relatives of alcoholics.
All newcomers are welcome to join any club or start one if they wish & feel there is interest.Â

Otherwise threads, dealing with individual problems re mental & physical health, and general Life Support. The prefix 'Otherwise' means that the following is going to be a thread containing personal information ,possibly of an upsetting nature and usually with an intention to share and receive support for some problem or serious situation. If you are posting hoping for a serious supportive response, using the Otherwise title will alert posters to this.
'Otherwise' was taken as the title for the mental health thread because it offered rich and positive ambiguities, between its normal modern meaning (from Old English 'on oðrum wisan') of 'in another manner', 'differently' and 'otherwise' meaning 'wise, insightful in an alternative manner'.Â

To draw attention to it as a serious issue, one that needs to be returned when needed RubyTea.
Thank you all. I knew I'd feel fick! I should have read that, shouldn't I?
What a typically sensitive way to handle such problems. I'm mainly a lurker myself, although I hate the name as when I do lurk, it is for comfort and support and good cheer. I find myself getting very involved in some of the issues on the boards - and thinking of the posters quite often (in a nice way) - in RL. I wonder if there are many more people like me. I wish we had a nicer name. Peepers? Oh no ... too Peeping Tom. Scwirlers (scrollers and lurkers?) too tricky for me to think of a name. Anyone think of something with a kinder name?

Nuffink wrong with RubyTea in my view, RubyT. Nice and short; easy to remember, because of rooibos tea, and pleasant to pass the time with - going by your postings so far. Have a skip from me, next time you're passing the Bull. See you again. If you change your name, we won't know it's you!

I think Ruby was thinkng of not being referred to as posters, Elnora!
I don't mind being a poster, Ruby, there are few alternatives, maybe a contributor?
[Bring Back Time Order]
Oh. I though that Ruby didn't like the name 'luker'. (Which I hate too.)

Doh!
I'm a soppy date, I thought shw meant poster, but it could be poster OR lurker, more likely lurker!
[BBTO]
Sorry about the long wait Fltie. Yes, I did mean "lurkers" as a name for people like me who don't post as often as they could. When I type my posts I am lucid and eloquent. However, when they appear on the boards they are often misinterpreted. I wonder if perhaps, possibly, could it be that I'm NOT lucid and eloquent?
How about 'squirkers' as a name? It has a spongier, squelchier tone than 'lurkers'.
PS, why are you so clever and nice Flytie? Do you take special 'clever and nice pills'? Where can I get some?
CLEVER?? No, Ruby, you most certainly are *not* lucid!!!!!
I do try to go for nice though. Mostly a squirker myself nowadays but can be found in the TVH Sports and Social Club. Do pop by!!
