If I recall correctly Daniel Hebden-Lloyd suffers from juvenile artritis. I can't remember any mention having been made of his condition for a good long time. I do miss the odd episode and my memory isn't what it was so I could be wrong.

He seems to function as a normal teenager so does this mean the arthritis has cleared up or that he only suffers off air? If the latter why do neither Shula nor Alistair or anybody ever mention it?

    Just curious.

Reggie, I think Doc Locke took Dan's arthritis with him when he left the village as a sort of momento. Certainly it hasn'r been heard of since and if Dan was still on the steroids I'm sure the Prof would have referred to his Fat Dan status as another waay to wind up Shula.

It is apparently quite normal for juvenile arthritis to go into remission as the child grows up and the condition more often than not then goes away altogether. This is what has happened to Daniel, hence he doesn't take the steroids any more, hence he is Formerly Fat Dan.

I have a friend whose son, 3 years older than FFD, suffered from the same condition, Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis, at the same time as Daniel. He had a couple of really bad flare-ups (as did Daniel), had steroids, grew out of it (and is still growing... and growing ... he's 16, over 6 foot) and has no re occurrences for the past 6 years. It seems that type of condition.

Ok Dragonfly and Rosie but it would be nice if we were kept informed. A remark by Shula to Alistair or one of her siblings would do, along the lines, "oh I took Daniel for his check up today and the doctor said that he's completely clear of symptoms and likely to stay so. So unless he has a flare up he'll never need to go back to the hospital again".

One of the few things that annoy me about TA is all the loose ends that get left lying around. I know it's convenient sometimes so that a plot line can be revived but it should be possible to both leave a storyline open and tell us why some things don't get mentioned anymore.

well, Reggie, Shula doesn't seem that interested in school for Daniel, let alone his health.
