Was Shula already engaged to Alistair when she & Dr Locke had their thing?
I seem to remember that she was, but am not sure.

I don't recall them being formally engaged. They were certainly, as the phrase has it, going out together. Rosie's bound to know the answer to this one.
Not Rosie but agree with what you say Reggie. Shula and Ali had started stepping out together (though I can't remember if they'd Done the Deed) when Daniel became ill. But they were nowhere near the engagement stage.
I have a memory of Ali complaining that Shula shut him out in her distress over Daniel - iirc they ceased seeing one another when Richard overstepped the mark.
Ali was very upset when he heard about Shula but when Susan named and shamed Shula at the CC AGM he went to her rescue and they were married within two months. Blimey.
I wish someone would name and shame Ruth. Cmon Kenton!
Well, I'm not Rosie, but I think I have the answer.
No, Shula and Alistair weren't engaged when Shula had her affair with Richard.
Dr Richard Locke left Ambridge on 24 September 1998,
at a Cricket Club meeting on 2 October 1998,
Shula was publically humiliated by Susan.
Alistair proposed to her within a fortnight.
Shula seemed alarmed at the speed with which things were moving,
and Alistair took the ring back,
He later presented Shula with two air tickets to St Kits, which he thought a suitable place for their honeymoon.
Having checked that it really was what he wanted,
She agreed to marry him.

Ah thanks for that, you two.
I thought the engagement was before the affair, and I do remember their rapprochment and eventual wedding (wasn't it on Xmas Eve?) being very close together.
Yes, they were married on 24 December 1998.
Keith
Coming up for their ninth anniversary then.

And Jill was very disapproving, both of the affair with RL, and of the speedy marriage to Alastair. She had nothing against Alastair, just said it was much too soon.
A classic moment - disgruntled cricketer's wife: "Well we all know why Dr Locke left, don't we" - stunned silence at her effrontery!
