Both my cousin Robert and I and his friend Marianne can't remember hearing how much William Grundy actually inherited from his aunt in Scotland? Were we ever told? If so, how much was it and do we know what he intends to do with it?

He was told that he was going to get in the region of £120,000 by her lawyer. I don't think we've ever been told the actual sum nor (iirc) have we been told whther he's actually got his hands on the Nelson Eddies yet.

I think William was told it would be "about 6 months" before probate was granted.
However much it is he'll end up handing over a chunk to Nic to get shot of her.
Come to think of it, does Emma have any claim on it? She was married to him whilst he was the named heir.

Emma will not be entitled to anything- Will only became entitled to the money after the divorce was finalised.

Can't you go back to court in sometimes eg if one partner's circumstances change radically? Could she be entitled to something more for George? May depend on what the terms of the original settlement were I suppose.
I don't think it's quite as simple as a material change eg if your ex won the lottery I don't think you can claim.
However whilst Will only inherited the money after the divorce he was named in the will beforehand. Isn't that a bit like a pension that someone will get eventually - they are certainly factored into settlements.
Should I e-mail Usha for more expert advice?

I'm not as very well read in this area, so the following is offered as a start point:
George is entitled to support at, IIRC correctly, 15% of Will's net income. The problem is that the windfall from Aunt Hilda will not be classed as income (it's a one off).
I don't know what statute Emma could use to go to court.

.. and to answer Mr Snowey, no its not like a pension. While the person making the will is alive they have the capability of changing the will, so the fact that you are the beneficiary is 'a mere hope'. Its only when the person dies that the money becomes 'real'.

I think Nic will steal it or spend it as women do. Her apologies for getting into debt were not convincing to me. She smells the folding stuff!

In face he was almost certainly named in the will /before/ he married Emma.

I think Nic will steal it or spend it as women do. Blimey.
How do women spend money? My experience in supermarket queues is that they spend it rather slowly...

bills
printer cartridges

I hate Nic as much as the next poster, but it really /is/ strange to imply that all/most women are like her.
