What guidance, if any, do they get about interpreting the SWs intentions?
I suppose they're subjective opinions could be a useful barometer of how any particular scene might appear to listeners.
Thanks, C-B
I think that Mr K once said that the SW who produces a particular script also writes the synopsis. However I can't remember him going into any detail about guidelines.
There must be a word limit but, on the rare occasions that I read them, they seem like straightforward summarising of what went on - no manifest humour, no axes being ground
yes they are totally straightforward imo, mr. s.
this happened, that happened, the consequence was etc. what we need for the rape row, is for mr. k. to confirm what the sw intended us to understand from that scene. as some will not accept the words 'he rapes her' in relevant synopsis as being true.

Thanks, Mr Snowy.
I wanted to know if there was any room for interpretation between the script/performance and the synopsis - like if the synopsis said "Jack thought that he was back in war-time" it's reasonable that that's what the SW/actors wanted to portray.

This is weird, because I remember just the opposite. I think /someone/ said here (it was probably Keri) that the scriptwriters did /not/ write the synopses.
But it may just be my bad memory.
I'm pretty sure Keri said each scriptwriter wrote her/his own week's synopsis, as well.
But I feel chilly and grown old.

And rightly so:

No, they are written by the broadcast assistant who works on the episodes in studio. We have fairly recently imposed a 200-word limit, partly to encourage concise phraseology, but also so that the synoposis can be used on platforms such as Freeview, so it may be that some details willnot be mentioned. I agree that this plot point was quite a big "detail", though.
I seem to remember ages ago at least one synopsis that said something that did not actually happen in the episode, or was interepreted entirely differently by listeners who heard the episode.
Mr K did comment on it, but I forget what he said. It might have been the same sort of gaff that gave Neil Nunes the wrong script - an episode was changed *after* the synopsis had been written, and it was not altered to match.

I THINK that can happen if the synopsis is written from the script, and then changes are made on the recording day. This was the reason why the reference to Matt and Lillian's 'Hell' was made by the CA
THT

Poor you, Rosie. Nip over to the Bull and have a winter warmer on me.

I know why you're asking the question, carrick and, at the risk of continuting the "if a tree falls in a forest" discussion in the thread which I have recently closed, I will say this:
He raped her.

Good evening, Keri.
Thanks for cutting through the Gordian knot. (If that's an acceptable simile)

Just bumping this, as at least one poster is suggesting that it might have been only in Kathys imagination.
