Since Shula has come out of her shell in finally standing up to that awful Jim the Professor - her new louder, stronger voice convinces me that she was a former teddy bear in a past life! I'm sure she was RUPERT BEAR in the 1970's - does anyone know?
google "Judy Bennett" and "Rupert Bear" and you get
(Judy B. being the actor who plays Shula, of course). (It's at the foot of the page, Narrator).
She used to do a lot of this sort of thing. She was one of the voices for an animated version of "The Perishers" from the Daily Mirror (?). I think she even got to do Wellington in it.

She and Charles Collingwood did "The Jolly Postman" which was so well loved, worn out by the number of children in my class who listened to it.

She was also Aunt Fanny in most of the audio versions of The Famous Five. Part suited Shula quite well, actually.

. . .and to all the other posts. I'm really impressed at the research, and at what everyone can remember. (I must listen in a complete blur.) What a strange and fascinating range of roles; I wonder if JB draws on all of these for Shulagh!

She was also Adam Macy before his voice broke, although she called herself Barnaby Williams for the purpose.
