There are a number of Archers-related arguments in our household; can you help solve this one?
I think that Higgs retired a couple of years ago but my OH believes that he's still working as do a lot of people in DTA. I also remember that on the occasion of Higgs's retirement party, we found out what his first name was.
Is he retired? And what's his first name?

Yes, but he helps out in the greenhouse, and "John".

I had no idea that Higgs had retired. So does Peggy do all the driving now? Or have they got a new driver?
I presume that Peggy drives her own car, I vaguely remember this was mentioned by Jennifer, or someone. Was it a Bentley which Higgs used to drive? I suppose this car is mothballed somewhere.

Didn't Higgs come out of retirement to drive the Bentley for the wedding of Titcombe and Mrs Pugsley?

It just occurred to me that an entire generation of "silents" are approaching the end of their lives, with only Derek Fletcher and Sabrina Thwaite to replace them.

And don't forget slug-lips Barry with the hair, Peet!
And Booth the Younger (Nathan? Neville?).

There's a whole new silent generation out there.
There's Colin Kennedy who works for Pat as well he can't be more than middle aged.
No one's mentioned the newest and youngest silent, well silent so far, Pip's new boyfriend.

Unfortunately, Izzy seems to have become a silent too.
Higgs still drives the Bentley occasionally.
only when they remember to wind the big key in his back

Is somebody of Higgs' age (I am presuming he must be fairly contemporary with Jack) really safe driving something the size of the Bentley around country lanes.
I hope I never encounter him around here.
[A country dweller]
did we? I missed the party, when was it? What was Higg's name? I thought that we leant Titcombe's first name on the happy occasion of his marriage to the lovely erm possibly Eilleen Pugsley, Titconbe being Edwin IIRC which is unlikely to be correctly remembered. mm

We have known John Higgs's forename for years: one of the first spats on the board, 8 or so years ago...

1. There has been no retirement party for Higgs.
2. When GG was sold Mr K promised that we would hear something clarifying Higgs's position but we never did!
Well, we did hear that he was still driving the Bentley.

OK, fair enough. Does he still look after the chrysanthemums, though?

And does he still play cricket? The moment he strode on to the pitch to rescue the side has lived long in my memory - early 80s.
What about Eddie's mate,Fat Paul and Jazza's brother Stew?
Earlier this week Jenny used " driving Peggy to the supermarket" as an excuse for not looking after Brian's sprog and was rather cutting to him about expecting her mother to get the bus. The days of Higgs and the rollers and beamers must be over. Will Brian now put Peggy onto Dial a Ride ?

No clue about Stew. But Fat Paul has been attending the Slimming Club, iirc. Soon to be Formerly Fat Paul?

Does Abigail count as a silent yet?
>And does he still play cricket?
He certainly hasn't been part of the Ambridge team for many years.
