Has anyone mentioned Hayley's parents? Apart from the one ridiculous mention of them 'having gone for coffee'? Okay, perhaps the powers that be didn't want to cast them, but not referring to them at all seems rather odd.
Her family [assume that meant parents] were mentioned as being with her in hospital sometime in the last few days.

Where are they staying? In Borchester? Felpersham? Or have they gone back to Birmingham? Would they go back so soon when the baby's condition is still precarious?
Do we know whether they work? Or are they retired?

When Brenda and Mike went to the hospital, Roy said that Hayley' mum and dad were getting a coffeem mike had already asked Roy on the phone "what about Hayley's mum and dad?" And Roy replied he had rung them.
Yes they were mentioned as message 2 says.
They will probably become join the ranks of the Freda. Neville and the like. The silent actors brigade....

i just think it is unrealistic not to hear them on air - crikey the archers casts other irrelevant 'non-speakers' often enough, i would have thought that there could have been the potential for some interesting scenes between hayley and her parents.
We know that Hayley's Dad is a bit of a comedian (from a previous comic relief joke telling event story line). SW in joke related to previous actress' father
As they live in Birmingham I assume they're commuting back and forth
Highly possible for Mike and them not to have contact - my inlaws and parents have only crossed paths once in the 16 years since we married

Even though they turned up for the marriage, we did not hear them - Hayley's dad (who is a lorry driver? I think) was mentioned as being "outside, having a smoke," but the mother of the bride got no coverage at all.

Is Hayley an only child?

well, going on their track record for appearing together on air - i would imagine the likelihood of them getting 'together' more than once, highly unlikely!
It's an interesting thought as to why some Ambridge incomers retain links with other family members, whilst others become entirely subsumed into the village and its inhabitants.
Does Jill Archer have sisters, brothers, cousins?
When did Sid Perks last receive a call from any family member still in Birmingham?
Bert Fry, despite being a local, is never allowed to have a conversation with his wife, and has no contact it would seem, with siblings or their offspring.
Robert has his daughters but Linda is entirely devoid of kinfolk.
Yet, other characters are plagued by visiting relatives, Ruth being the most obvious.
Alistair's father, having been mentioned about once in ten years made an extended appearance as we know, recently.
(It happens in real life too, some people are always going on about their long-absent relatives and others seem to be all alone in the world and then suddenly there's a wedding or a funeral and you find that there's a whole crowd of them.)
Hayley has a brother. I can't remember if he was ever named. Was he there with their father helping them make alterations to Marjorie's house?
One of the many brother-sister pairs. (Brian, Nigel, Mark, Alistair and others.)
>Does Jill Archer have sisters, brothers, cousins?
She is an orphan who was brought up by her aunt and uncle.
>When did Sid Perks last receive a call from any family member still in Birmingham?
If he did, I agree that he's kept very quiet about it.
>Bert Fry, despite being a local, is never allowed to have a conversation with his wife,
Bert has conversations with Freda all the time. Don't be confused by the fact that we never hear them. We don't hear Brian using the toilet either, but I'm sure he does.
>and has no contact it would seem, with siblings or their offspring.
He may be an only child.
>Robert has his daughters but Linda is entirely devoid of kinfolk.
Yes, but the point to all this is that there is already a giddying web of familial and other relationships in the village. If we tried to find time to specify, explain and explore all the extra-Ambridge relationships as well we'd be hard pressed to tell any stories.
And remember that not all of the audience (most of it, I'd suggest) are listening as closely as people who use the message board. Give the poor casual listener a chance...

I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies.
Well Keri it's a 'giddying web' of your own making.
In the circumstances, weaving this particular one, about a young woman worrying about the life of her baby, it would be natural for her to turn to her own mother. Especially when her home life is a source of conflict already.
Rather more likely than Prof Jim?
Perhaps Hayleysmum is staying in a small local Borchester B&B and popping in to see H n Abi every day, but they haven't had time to tell us so?
Or perhaps H's relationship with her mother isn't really that good and that is one reason why she was so keen to stay in or near Ambridge?

Which must mean he ate fewer of Jennifer's 'spicy vegetable triangles' than Joe Grundy, who subsequently spent several days on the lav.
