How do I quote from other people's messages in the Discussion board? So that I don't have to type their contribution again & also make it clear that I am quoting - if you see what I mean?
Quotes seem to appear in a box - I can't see where I can do that. Been through the rules & guidelines but no help there.
Thanks.

Highlight, drag or copy and paste the bit you want to quote.
Type
but actually quote (i.e. no capitals) at the start, and

but actually /quote (i.e. no capitals), at the close.
It's quite hard for us to show what to do because - as Rosie has had to do - we can't do the EXACT thing. If we did it would simply turn into a quote and not be helpful at all.
I found this Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú page recently.
Which says exactly what Rosie has but without the need for capitals.

Wonder if this will turn out ok?

By Jove I think I've got it Thanks all ..but how did jx get the fancy boxes?
No need to answer that one. Off with the fairy wheels & on to the big school's board now .....
Thanks

thats the 'command' for quoting followed by the copied and pasted text, followed by another quote 'command' then a double of 'end quote commands'

Wow misterlegs -thanks. Need time for this to sink in & to locate command on my appleMac.
Think my brain needs sustenance - & TA will be on soon!

Hello smarchers, glad to see that you've got the hang of quoting. Sorry you didn't find my explanation clear.
"we can't do the EXACT thing" - Rosie had to put 'QUOTE' instead of 'quote'.
"If we did it would simply turn into a quote and not be helpful at all." - if Rosie *had* typed 'quote' then she would have ended up with a 'boxed' quote and not an explanation.
Is that any clearer? Not that it matters really but others may be reading this thread too.
:~)
Mmmmm

Still practising.
Anywise - notice that not everybody on the Discussion board uses the boxes so quite pleased have got the hang of it.
Thanks.
(tho it will take me some time to quote your name aloysia with all the fancy bits!)

Oh don't worry about that, the fancy bits might not even be there next week!! Plain Aloysia is just fine!

Is this how it works?
Not me - I can't do what you just did i.e. a white box in a pinky box in a white box yet.
Better keep the day job.
I don't know how I did it, I was just trying ( and failing) to do a single box
still practising......[slow learner]
stupid thing is I sometimes get it right but can't for the life of me remember how I did it.
I mostly get it wrong.
Not that all this matters TOO much in the greater scheme of things, I suppose. But it is reassuring to find others out there somewhere struggling man/womanfully in techno-numpty-land!!

<quote> Highlight, <quote>
Sorry, just having a practice!
I used to have 'Word' on my toolbar and it was easy to quote but it seems to have disappeared!

Me too
patriarchou, you're missing the "/" at the beginning of the second "quote" tag. Instead of opening, then closing a quote you're opening two consecutive quotes.
