From the timeline, 1984.
'Susan Horrobin married Neil Carter, 25 Feb.
Emma Carter born prematurely, 7 August.'
Did Ambridge go along with Susan's story that Emma was premature? And did the programme feature any general concern (even if only on the lines of: 'Well, she's a good size for a seven month baby?'
I can't remember any fuss; nor, come to that, can I remember whether anyone pretended to believe the later exclamations over Georgie as a 'honeymoon' baby.
I don't recall Neil and Susan trying to hide Emma's pre-marriage conception. Neil asked Phil for time off for the wedding - Phil said it wasn't very convenient, did it have to be so sudden, it wasn't as if Susan's father was after Neil with a shotgun - Neil muttered "well actually..." and Phil was very embarassed. Plus, didn't Emma tell someone recently - Ed at a guess? - that she was conceived pre-wedlock?
She said it to her parents too, when she was trying to explain her own behaviour to them. ("But we were faithful, Emma!")
And she said to Will that no-one would believe the honeymoon baby story, and that it didn't matter nowadays anyway.

Thanks, you two. In this case, then, was Emma really premature? (Possibly only by a little, perhaps.) I'd remembered the label as Susan's cover-story; but if she really was unduly early, were there any medical worries about it all?
I think she was said to be a bit premature, and therefore small and delicate? But was that only what Susan said?

Emma was a month premature, and had a weekin an incubator, and jaundice, I think.
Also she got pregnant after the wedding was arranged so it was more jumping the gun than shotgun....

Er, Neil was "nice to her" in the London hotel, and she became pregnant. That's /why/ they married!
I was talking about Emma and Will, Rosie ..but I will "snork" everytime I hear someone has been nice to someone else hence forth...

Again, thanks all. This started to niggle me with the Abbie story. Possibly, judging by the current SL, she was only two weeks early after all!

And to subcribe to the 'good size for a seven-month baby' get-out,you would still have to account for the wedding-date (minus two weeks) and the birthdate still only stretching to six months. Basically Susan was 11 weeks gone when she married and everyone was aware of it.
