Hello. I am new here and this is my first post.
I am an overseas student in the UK. I arrived last autumn. I started listening to The Archers because I was told that it would improve my English. I am OK at reading and writing but not so good at understanding spoken English.
I would like to learn more about the characters in the programme and more about the history of the families.
I saw a list of books on the web site. As listeners, which of those books do you most recommend? Can I find them as audio CDs?
Thank you.
How delightful to be able to greet you and welcome you here. I am sure a fellow poster will soon come forward with an answer.
I have just looked at our local library catalogue on-line and there are loads of casettes available (no cd's that I can see unfortunatley). I live in devon but I guess if other libraries will stock them too!
Good luck

has some CDs and a video. There are/were some audiotapes published, but do not seem to be available at the moment.

Welcome to the country and the message board. I suggest you try the library in your area, there are several books in our branch, some recent and others written some time ago. They are all interesting and what they miss out on you can look up on this website.
I would like to thank everyone who replied to me.

Good morning! I was given a very useful book about TA for Christmas. It's 'Who's Who in The Archers' by our own Keri Davies - elegant, portable, easy to consult, and quite comprehensive.
The book's a handy reference, too ...
There's also a work in progress right here on the message boards, it's 'Hosiery: A Mustarlander's Guide' (subtitled 'Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Socks in Ambridge and Mustardspace but Didn't Dare Ask'.)
