Forgive me for taking you all back YEARS, BUT am interested to know if anyone remembers the episode where HRH Princess Margaret visited Ambridge??? Was flicking thru the timeline yesterday and discovered this little gem!! I used to listed to Archers when I lived in London for 9 years and have only just rediscovered Archers way down here in NZ after getting my podcasts up and running....sorry, I digress - can anyone tell me about this episode or where can I get a recording of it to listen to? also...has anyone else who is 'famous' been on the Archers as well??? regards and thanks.

Can't answer your question but I remember the PM episode very well. As an actor she made a very good princess!!
Other famous people - no, not really. Now await a reaction from T Wgan and fans of that boring ex-gardener, whatever his name is. (Only joking).
Wasn't it for NSPCC that P M was in?
Sure there have been others (including lovely Alan), but brain not in gear yet.

There was a cricketer last year. And that chap who does/ did the "Restoration" series (Lynda tried to interest him in the fate of the "Cat & Fiddle").
VH
The cricketer was Mike Gatting, at the final of the village cricket competion at Lords. The list of celebs who have been in TA is as long as your arm and includes Terry Wogan, Griff Rees-Jones and a blonde woman who used to be marries to Rod Stewart, whose name escapes me.
I believe the Princess Margaret contection was through Lord Netherbourne, a relation of Caroline's.
Thu, 03 Apr 2008 08:58 GMT, in reply to Reggie Trentham
Caroline's uncle, Lord Netherbourne --> Duke of Westminster --> Princess M.
John Peel was also a guest star.
Also rans: Anneka Rice, Dame Edna Everage, Griff Rhys Jones, Alan Titsmarsh

Also Ann Someone, a horse rider, who came to say Shula would never make it (I paraphrase). Judy Dench also played a one-off part.

Ray Winstone was on too (pretended to be a fertility expert but he fooled nobody).
Mike
Belieive Ray Winstone understudies for Matt Crawford when he can't do TA..

Mike can believe it if he wants. I don't.
Happy to stand corrected but didn't Judy Dench play Pru Forest for the one episode and was only allowed to say the one word, which I think might have been "No" but obviously not in WR fashion....
Britt Ekland ?

She presented Wogan with some of her homemade jam, and got very dithery. Yes, one episode, voice not very like the real Prue, but behaviour in character..

Britt Ekland was appearing in panto in Borchester and Eddie won a Borchester Echo or Radio Borsetshire competition to meet her. He was thrilled (being a great fan of her ... acting skills) and took William along, iirc, but neither of them got lucky (what a surprise).

Strictly speaking, William won.
But it was a colouring in competition, and Eddie did the colouring in for him...

Prince Charles made a (silent) celebrity appearance, of course (if we believe the HellQueen).

Well if we're talking about silent celebs there was Alan Rickman's appearance as Titcombe at his wedding. As specially requested by irene.
Also Ann Someone, a horse rider, who came to say Shula would never make itÂ
Ann Moore: won an Olympic silver medal (Munich??)on Psalm
Apologies for not getting to this earlier. I really must come here more often!
In reply to Rosie in message 6, I don't know if Alan has ever been called "Titsmarsh" before - quite possibly. But I think there's a "ch" in the middle!
And, in reply to Mike in message 8, I think Mr (sorry, Lord) Winstone's name is Robert.
Don't know for certain, as it probably applies more to TV, but is Ray Winstone also an actor?
A few other celebs to appear were:
Gilbert Harding, Richard Todd, Percy Edwards, Dame Edna Everage, Humphrey Lyttelton and Hebe Taylor.
Keith
Sorry, Rosie. I see you've already mentioned Dame Edna. That'll teach me to try and be clever!

Ray Winstone is an actor - usually pays London hard-men / villains. Unlikely to have appeared in TA.......................

Yes, I was actually repeating a joke (not originally mine) that it was Ray Winstone (the fairly well known British film actor) who played the fertility expert, not (Lord) Robert Winston. It would be difficult to mistake one for the other if you heard them both!
Yes, I was actually repeating a jokeÂ
Whoops! I didn't get that one!
Ann Hayden, later Hayden Jones; show jumper. Judi Dench played Prue as a one off. c/lx

And Zandra Rhodes.
Unless there were two of them Ann Haydon, later Ann Haydon Jones was a British tennis player of 1950/60s vintage. I think she may even have won Wimbledon but she never appeared on the Archers as far as I recall.
Reggie, quite right. As someone has already said, it was Ann Moore, the show jumper.
And, Mike, I'm sorry. I obviously missed the earlier joke.
As already said, I don't know Ray Winstone, as I hardly ever leave the radio for the telly. So, actors who are every-day names to many, are very often not known by me.
Keith
sorry, right woman, wrong surname. i was never a fan of either sport. So D'Oh!! c/lx
Who remembers the episode of concerning the dodgy Christmas lights when Baggy and Snatch were played by Sir John Geilgud and Nicholas Parsons? A real gem, IMHO.
When Judi Dench played Prue as a one-off, her final words were that she would never speak again. This proved to be very true!
Prue had previously been a speaking character, so it was very odd to hear Judi play her, as many of us remembered Prue's voice. I think she became silent pre Judi when the actress died.
I remember Dame Edna. "She" humiliated Lynda at her show, but Lynda didn't realise she was being mocked. I seem to remember a conversation about watered silk in Lynda's bedroom.
I suppose the latest "star" is Alex Jennings as the barrister at Kathy's trial.
Alma.
Vaguely remember when Princess Margaret graced Ambridge with her presence. Think that might have been the time that Pru was on the reception committee but was too overcome to say *anything* to HRH. Well, she would be, wouldn't she?!

Indeed, alma. Eau de Nil. I hated this epi - one of the worst 'let's get Lynda' epis of all time. Worse than the Fabergé egg.

Apparently unscripted. I read somewhere that "Dame Edna" was just told to engage with the woman in the 3rd row in seat 23, or something similar. Very cringey.

Oh dear, Rosie, it gets worse and worse. Poor Lyndie.
Dame Edna was at a genuine show. When she asked where Lynda lived, she said "a little village near Birmingham". I wondered at the time why she didn't say near Felpersham or Borchester, or even that she lived in Ambridge. Then I read that it was recorded on location, and the theatre audience might have twigged.
PS Anyone remember Alexei Sayle passing by on Citizens? Anyone remeber Citizens come to that?
And of course Lord Litchfield took Shula's wedding snaps - another of Caroline's aristocratic connections!
As for HRH, when it was pointed out that she was coming across as being bored in a conversation with Jack Woolley, isn't she reputed to have said "but I would be, wouldn't I....!"
!!
I will always remeber Citizens - Darius was the main character - lovely voice!

I thought the main character was Alex, the single parent?
Who.....? Weren't most of the children long-lost ones only discovered by tenuous plot-devices.....?
Wasn't Stephen Fry a guest celeb in the spoof episodes where Jill threatened to kill Ruth?

That was a tortured Uncomic relief thing, though, not a real life epi!
