When was Alf jailed and what was his crime?
The "characters" link on the left gives the crime as breaking & entering but I have a vague memory from the early 80s that it was for handling stolen copper. Has he maybe been jailed more than once?
Alf was, I think, at large in 1980ish when Eddie was sacked from his plant hire job. I remember this because Eddie was faced with the choice of staying on the farm with his dad, or going off scrap dealing with Alf.
I think it was the mid/late 80s he visited Grange Farm & nicked the stereo from Eddie's Capri & William's piggy box. William was born in 83, I think it was probably 87ish. Hadn't he just come out of prison at the time? Did he then go back inside?
The characters link tells us that he turned up for Joe's 80th, which would have been 2001. I must have missed that. Did we learn anything interesting?
I think it was somewhere in the eighties that he was sent down - his scrap metal business included too much stolen scrap metal business.......
I just thought the SW's had left him there to rot...................
I was clearing out my old audio cassettes (remember them?) the other day. There were several of TA (I must get a life) including the wedding of Eddie and Clarrie in which Alf has a small part.
I believe he refers to Clarrie as "Big Bertha".
(This is based on memory rather than aforesaid tape).

Alf came out of jail many years ago and lives in Gloucester.
Thanks all who responded.
I went through Gloucester on the train the other week, I should have looked out for him.
Living in Gloucester? He's not shacked up with Taylor's mother, is he? If Alf brings her with him on one of his frequent (but unmemntioned) visits to his elderly pa and Kathy happens to be looking out of the window when they arrive .......
Kathy will of course recognise Mrs T as she was so supportive to her son during the trial.
