Yet another inevitable question from me, please.
Who please played the Judge, Court Usher and leader of the jury in tonight's episode?
Many thanks.
Keith
According to the RT listing for this week, the Clerk of the Court was played by Ian Brooker and Susan Jeffrey was the Jury Foreman.
Many thanks for this. Odd they weren't listed in the on-line cast list!
Do I take it, please, that the person who asked the jury if they'd reached their verdict was the Court Usher, and not the Judge (a third cast member)?
I presume it was the Court Usher who mentioned the jury were coming back in?
Sorry to be a pain.
Keith
Yes, the Court Usher does the "members of the jury..." bit
Do you know who it sounded like when I first heard his voice a sane Jack Woolley. You listen.. When he speaks again it doesn't sound like him, but for fleeting moment.....
Binocular: Yes, there is a certain similarity.
Mabel: Many thanks.
The daily synopsis I receive got it wrong, as it said:
"At court, it’s clear the jury are not finding
it easy. The judge calls them back in and
tells them he will accept a majority verdict ...."
Good, though, that you've set the record right.
I've no actual experience of court procedure, never having appeared in court on one side of the law or the other!
Keith
Did we actually hear that - we heard the jury say they couldn't reach a unanimous verdict (children were being noisy so I may have missed it). They may have originally written the judge saying majority will do then cut it but left that bit of the story in the synopsis (as sometimes happens)
just to clarify crown court procedure...once the jury are out considering their verdict, it's the jury bailiff (ie usher) who ensures no one speaks to the jury about the case. He must not speak to them either save to ask if they are agreed on their verdict. When the jury are brought back into court (having told the bailiff they have a verdict), it's the court clerk who asks the questions about what that verdict is.
Mabel, yes, we did hear the jury say they hadn't reached a verdict on which at least ten of them were agreed.
But, in all fairness, before the jury person spoke, Kenton said the clerk was on his feet.
CC: many thanks for your very clear clarification.
And, re the cast listing, I see now that both Ian and Susan were mentioned on line. I don't know how I came to miss it first time around.
