No, I am not referring to the last Bishop of Felpersham.

I refer to Cyril friend of Fatman Forrest and Manager of Brian's Fishing Lake.

My source of information is an old "Who's Who in Ambridge", an A4 publication of 20 pages dated 1993 (any reasonable offer considered).

In those days Adam was a silent (happy days), Robin Stokes was engaged to Caroline (who had lost £60k to Cameron), the Dopeys were matchmaking between Usha and Kenton, Guy Pemberton was supposed to be an attraction for the "more mature ladies of the village" (ouch Caroline), Marjorie was preparing for her Bishops Certificate (what is this?).

Oh and Phil was very keen on his Middle White sow Molly, daughter of dearly departed Freda.

Not very diplomatic to name a pig after the wife of your employee surely?

(Marjorie was going to be a deacon, wasn't she? she couldn't be a vicar like Janet or an archdeacon like Rachel, it was too late for her.)

Lay-reader, I think (or whatever they call a person who can officiate at a CoE service when they run out of vicars - as they had done about that time).

and Tom Forrest was making a load of comments about wanting a "nice little family man, like Richard Adamson, with a proper Vicar's Wife, like Dorothy," á la Susan Carter, instead of a non-stipendiary vet called Robin or Jack Daw.

Bizzarely, I was visiting a non-Archers-listening friend yesterday, and he said he wanted to show me something on his computer.

It was an "Archers" "Interactive Fiction" game, circa the 1980s, where you had to control the actions of jack Wooley as he interacted with the rest of the village. It was nice to "bump into" old favourites like Martha Woodford, and to see Higgs back in the days when he would get drunk and end up cavorting with Trudy Porter and another chambermaid in the GG fountain at midnight... smiley - bigeyes

Bob, this would have been Cyril Hubbocks.

He originally had a job on a milk round for Borchester Dairies.

He later, as you say, managed the fishing lake for Brian.
