Is this the right place to ask a techie question? I'm fairly sure it is - I vaguely remember getting a helpful answer to a question I had when I first started coming here. Anyway, what I wanted to ask is... em, how to explain clearly what I mean... Ok, let me try.
If I open the 'your discussions' page I can see what threads I've contributed to. By clicking on 'last contribution' I jump automatically to my last contribution. All fine so far. But if I've contributed earlier to the same thread - how do I then find that earlier contribution without having to trawl through the whole thread? Is this possible? All replies gratefully recieved.

Campbell, there's no "official" way to do it. Unofficially, however...

Go to the first page of the thread. Click at the end of the URL in the address bar at the top of your browser and add "&show=200". Press "Return". You will now be getting 200 postings to a page.

In Firefox, type "[Control]F" to bring up the "Find" box at the bottom of the page. Type in your nickname. If it exists on the page you will jump to the first occurrence of it; if it doesn't the search box will turn red. If that's not the posting you're looking for, click "Next". If you've seen all the postings mentioning your name on that page, or there are none, click the next page number and repeat.

If you're using IE, I think the search box is accessed under "Edit -> Find..."; if you're using Safari you're on your own. (I'm not saying it doesn't have a "Find" function, just that I have no idea where it is... smiley - blush)

Dunno how helpful this will be, but have you searched in the thread?

Go to the address bar (at the top in my browser). Click on it, it will be highlighted, so click again to get rid of the highlighting. To the end of the address, add

    &show=200

    and press enter/go/return.

This gives you 200 posts to the page,a larger amount to search.

    Then you can simultaneously press

    Ctrl and F

This gives you a search box, where you can enter a word, in this case your name (or even part of your name). Press 'next' to get your next mention, then next again and again and again. It should highlight the word for which you are searching.

Thanks to both of you for the quick and helpful replies. The show 200 tip is ideal for page searches (which I never would have thought of doing by myself!) And yes, I now know how to find lots of things, not just my own postings. Very useful indeed. May your reward be in heaven by the Father... (oh no, that's another thread smiley - winkeye

Some of us orphans prefer to remain that way, Cloggie. But thank you for what you saw as a nice thought.
