Please could Mrs Antrobus have a line or two?
At the recent Edinburgh meet, we were talking about how much we miss her still, and we know that Margot Boyd is probably greatly enjoying her retirement and has not been well, but if it is at all possible, it would be wonderful to hear from her.
We wondered if perhaps someone could phone her, maybe to chat to her about Baby Abbie? She helped and befriended so many people that we came up with lots of possibles very quickly.
She could just say "how lovely of you to phone" or "what marvellous news"... really, just one sentence, it would mean a lot to many of us who remember Mrs A with enormous pleasure. Obviously, we realise she can probably not go to a studio but could perhaps be recorded at her home, or even down a telephone?
If Margot Boyd isn't able to record any longer, perhaps you would just tell her that she is still very much loved and both she and her character are very much missed.

You didn't ask for votes, but you got mine.
Excellent idea.
Right with you there, Laura. Marjorie was one of the great characters..........before so many started becoming caricatures.

Yes, Laura.
I developed great respect and affection for that blooming dog woman, a lovely character much missed.
She was a wonderful character and portrayed so well. I too miss her participation

She could ask about Phoebe!

Who?
I agree with Laura's request.
I couldn't agree more with the sentiments expressed here. A lovely actor and a wonderful character.
Unfortunately Margot (who is over 90 now) isn't really up to doing a recording at the moment but we continue to keep in touch with her.

Thanks, Mr K
I am sad she won't be recording but will continue to hope she may feel up to it in the future!
Do please send her our love and tell her that nine MLers meeting for dinner last week in Edinburgh spent quite a bit of time thinking up ways in which she could make a brief reappearance, and discussing how much we enjoyed her contribution to The Archers.
We also remembered some of our favourite moments - mine was when they had to hitch a lift with a minibus of rugby-players and MissusAy got on famously with them all! That's how I always think of her

Even if Margot Boyd isn't up to recording, could we at least have references to her? Hayley might take Abbie up to see her and comment about it etc.
Just she has become a silent shouldn't mean she isn't mentioned on air!
and i hope mr.k. passed on similar wishes for her last time her name came up on here which wasnt so long ago now. she will feel much loved i'm sure.

I remember a scene many years ago when Mrs A was talking about Teddy having been on a tiger shoot in Africa. Outrage on 'Disgusted Tunbridge Wells' (pre-ML days) that there were no tigers in Africa.
The official Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú response was that there used to be, but Teddy shot them all!
Well, I thought it was pretty quick thinking!
Mr K has announced in DTA that Margot Boyd died today. Very sad news. I hope someone told her what you said, Laura. If Margot Boyd isn't able to record any longer, perhaps you would just tell her that she is still very much loved and both she and her character are very much missed.Â

Thankyou, Blanche - I'd have missed that otherwise.
Damn damn damn. I really loved the character but also Margot Boyd's voice.
laura
Such sad news. Inside a month, we have lost Margot Boyd and Humphrey Lyttelton - too irreplaceable characters who have brought so much pleasure to so many over the years.

Laura, I agree with Blanche: I hope Margot Boyd heard what you said about her. Lovely post.
Very sad. Such a superb actress. Her character always reminded of Joss in Tenko, wonderful, capable, wise women. Margot Boyd played the part so well, she was a truly great actress.
I am sure this has been asked [and answered] before, but is Carole related to Margot Boyd?
It has, and the answer is, norelation.

Apparently Margot Boyd's real name was Beryl Billings. (I found this fact on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú 1's teletext page 501).
And there's a full obituary on this very site:
This isn't really Archers-related, but I believe that I heard her many times in other R4 drama. Since it is not easy (or usual) to actually repeat a whole Archers episode, are there any plans to repeat (say) an Afternoon Play she starred in? I would love to hear her again, and it would be a nice tribute. This is always assuming I am not misremembering!
racheinderbys, that's why I was asking about "A Long Wave Goodbye" - it was an afternoon play where she played the character of "the dog woman", complete with an Afghan hound called Portia! Basically, IIRC, she was manifesting in the dreams of a long-time Archers fan. From what I remember, it was quite amusing.

She is regularly heard on bbc7. I'd love to hear her in the Coward, I've only read the play. I wonder if they made it into a radio broadcast with her in it?
Am I right in recalling that she did Lady Adle Remembers? I'd love to hear some of that again.

from the Guardian:
"Boyd, who did not marry, found her 90th birthday celebrarted with a surprise
party at Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Pebble Mill, Birmingham, when she went to record scenes for the
programme, now as the oldest-ever member of the cast. She had her favourite
lunch: egg and chips with a whisky and soda."
