A Question for Keri Davies: How did the SWs know that today was going to be a spectacularly rainy day in England? I thought TA was recorded weeks in advance?
We know Bank Hols are legendary for bad weather, but that's not an infallible statistic, and it might have been a gorgeous sunny day everywhere in the country, yet rain was a crucial element in today's SLs (Ed/car breakdown/Em lift; also LL) and was mentioned everywhere in the epi, so how did the SWs know? Was there a reliable long range forecast, or was today's epi exceptionally recorded v. recently?
Or do they write epis with rain in and then broadcast them on a rainy day?
Or was it just sheer luck?
I thought it was a wonderful sound effect. Especially the rain build up.
>Or was it just sheer luck?
It was just sheer luck. Sometimes it happens, usually it doesn't.
I've just written a week in which the weather is very specific, and I have no confidence whatsoever that the weather generally in Britain will match it. That's the Ambridge microclmate for you...
Well, in that case, serendipitous congratulations!
I suppose the law of averages means the weather must match real life sometimes.
Do you know, I even had a fleeting fantasy that the actors had recorded the relevant lines twice - once finishing with 'look out, here comes the rain' and once finishing with 'isn't it a glorious day', and then the sound recordists patched in whichever was more appropriate at the time of transmission. The reality is far more dull!

My OH said exactly the same to me at the end of last night's epi (i.e. do they record two different versions for the different weather scenarios?)
Sadly, I think it's only productions with a budget the size of "Sex and the City" which can afford to do that!
Well quite - I mean they'd have to pay them twice wouldn't they...

But it would only take another couple of minutes.
Hey, Keri, perhaps you could judt record a few such remarks and splice (or wotevva you do wiv electronic thingies nowadays) them in?
Or would Equity have something to say about that?
We have recorded two versions of scenes in the past (the most recent total solar eclipse was one such occasion) but it's really too complicated to do more than very rarely.
Well, congratulations on getting the rain to synch with reality!
Didn't know that about the eclipse (why would I - presumably the unused version is still on the shelf, unused), but thanks for the insightful er... insight, Keri.
