Not there yet...?
Are we still no nearer a solid reliable up-to-date Podcast feed..?
It seems at least once every couple of weeks it doesn't appear until someone gets into the office in the morning - reads all the rants, and presses the button to transfer it...
Is it different causes each time? Is there an underlying problem? Are we expecting too much to listen daily? (Should I just go back to listening to the omnibus instead?)

It's amazing how quickly we get used to it... remember when it was 'if only we had a podcast'...
There's always LA I suppose.

No sign yet, at 11:22 am on Thursday.
Last time this happened it was on Friday 13th. It appears that the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú (especially Radio 4) have some sort of technical issue with podcasts (Friday 4th July's podcast of The Now Show didn't go out till Monday morning). I too am annoyed by the "there it is now" approach the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú takes once the episode is finally posted. There has NEVER been a reason given for these delays. Keri Davies stated in the thread about the Friday 13th podcast being late that "Like you I am concerned about this and I'm taking the matter up with my colleagues." I wonder when these "colleagues" are going to give a full reason why these delays occur or indeed do something about it!
Might I suggest that as this is an ongoing problem then the only way of resolving it is that as many listeners as possible make an official complaint. I have just done this through the following link.

The more that complain, the more likely the cause of the late publication of the podcast will be addressed.

You seem to have touched a nerve, here, beaucastel!
Seriously, although I don't know anything at all about podcasts, I do know enough about IT in general to know that these things can be much more complicated behind the scenes than is apparent from the outside.

Wednesday p'cast still seems to be missing; it's a bit early for Thursday's to be there so I won't whinge about that!
I really don't want to whunge at all - as pointed out above a few months ago we didn't even have a podcast - but if it's offered, it ought to work reliably.
(And it's hilarious that the moderators removed the complaints link!)

And now (19:32) Thursday's is downloading - but still no sign of Wednesday's.

I thought the problem was just with the iGoogle feed which was fixed but today I have Thursday but no Wednesday. Very odd.

No, it's not a problem with igoogle or iTunes or anything, if you follow the podcast link on TA homepage it has Thursday (tonight) and Tuesday but no Wednesday!

Thank you VH - at one point I thought it was just me being victimised!
I too know, perhaps more than most, how complex the IT behind the scenes can be; however if they were to just apply a 'five whys' approach they would likely find and be able to fix the *root* cause... unless it's a different root cause each time.
I have no problem with problems arising and being fixed - but I do get annoyed when the reponse seems to be one of just fixing the symptom and not the cause. It's an expensive way of fixing problems!
I don't expect a full technical breakdown of the real problem/solution - just a nice warm feeling that "They" have one, or are at least looking for it...
As someone else said - if they are going to offer it; it should work. It erodes confidence and loyalty if it doesn't. Let's hope our fears of a 'laisse faire' attitude behind the scenes are unfounded.
Bring Back Time Order
It never fails to amaze me how organisations whose business is communication with an audience then fails to do so with respect to a mickey mouse problem that occured here.
A simple message, erudite and truthfull would have brought us all "on side" and diminished the need for specutaion as to the cause of what went wrong.
There is a lesson here to be learnt, let's see in the future whether it has been taken on board.
I'm very sorry about this continued problem. It is a technical one - the episodes were correctly loaded to the system but failed to publish as podcasts.
I'll be discussing the underlying technical side with the relevant people next week, and hope that we can resolve it.
I might also add that having already worked a full shift, one of The Archers production team voluntarily returned to the Mailbox from her home in Leicester in the middle of yesterday evening to attend to this issue.

Keri
Thank you - and thanks also to the person who fixed the problem this week, that is appreciated.
I suppose one problem is that if the podcast doesn't work on a particular evening, that will only be known at around 8pm and by definition that makes it too late to fix till next day.

Since the Podcasts are apparently "loaded up in advance", why not make it available simultaneously with the /start/ of the programme? That way, if it's broken you find out an hour earlier and there's less likelihood someone will have gone all the way home before being called back in to fix it...

Wow. Please give our thanks to that person Keri, whoever she is.
Interesting suggestion, Peet, but the principle is always that the first broadcast is the one on the radio, followed by other methods.

But as the podcast will usually be downloaded automatically by those who aren't around to hear the radio airplay anyway, no-one will be losing out? Surely you won't be losing a significant number of listeners by making the podcast contemporaneous with the actual broadcast?
Keri, Thanks for the feedback.
I know that these things happen - and as long as people are learning from them, and working towards a solution; we can ask no more.
I guess we all just wanted to be sure that a permanent fix is coming - rather than heroes parachuting in after hours to post podcasts (thanks! whoever you are).
Keep up the good work!
I think the real answer is to make the podcast system more robust.

I agree. My "fix", like the "Flea", is a temporary patch just to make the current flawed system slightly more workable without requiring any actual thinking.
I can see why you would be reluctant, in case, like the "flea", it became permanent.
Peet (I'm not bitter)
