I know they've retired to Bournmouth, but couldn't we have some news or even a visit?

He /is/ still alive, isn't he? How old would John and Carol be? John in his eighties perhaps? Carol a little younger?
When did they leave Ambridge, and why do we never hear anything about them? I liked John a lot.
They went to Bristol in 1990, AFAIR. They came back to Ambridge for The Big Party - not heard, but Jill said, "Excuse me, I must just go and have a word with John and Carol." (Jill was Anna-Louise's godmother).

Thanks, Rosie. Bristol, not Bournmouth! Considering how many different actors played John, I don't see why he couldn't make a comeback. Perhaps for the birthday party.
Have you any idea how old they would be?
I don't think they can be much older than their mid seventies, based on the fact that they didn't marry and produce a child until the very late 60s. Of course John could be a good bit older but I've always thought they were of similar ages.

Oh, there's a child, is there? Hmm ... We need news of the child too. I stopped listening in the sixties and have only just taken it up again.
John arrived in Ambridge sometime in the fifties. Not sure how old he was then.
