Is it true that Brian had designs on Betty Tucker at one point? A friend is confident that this is so, but my memory is hazy. Help please!

Yes he went in for the sleaziest kind of sexual harassment when he was her employer.(unsuccessful, but caused poor Betty a great deal of angst, especially in case Mike found out)
Many thanks, shall pass the info on.

Yes, indeed, Brian made advances to Betty---this was just before he was kicked by the Grundy's mad cow, causing him to develop epilepsy (later cured.) He had a line about , 'You're a fine looking woman Betty'---which confused me, because I'd always imagined Betty as dumpy, rather plain and mumsy-looking, in a floral apron and granny slippers.

Betty had a job cleaning for Brian and Jennifer. Brian suggested that she take a break and go swimming with him in th home farm pool. Embarrassed, she said she hadn't a costume, but Brian said not to worry, they could go skinny dipping. he tried to embrace her.
Jill gave Brian A Good Talking-to, I think.
Betty seems an ulikely choice for Brian - was he on short rations at the time I wonder?

It was, indeed, very weird---he usually goes for ladies like Caroline, Siobhan and (possibly) Mandy Beesborough---and, as I said, I never imagined Betty to be sexy. But maybe the message was Brian's so lusty he'll chase anything in s skirt......

It was not so much a job, it was almost slavery for poor Beddy, who took the position in order to get a cottage 'thrown-in' to reunite the Tugger family after their bankrupcy at Ambridge Farm. For a short while Beddy and kids were staying at The Bull, whilst Moike had a live-in position as a herdsman elsewhere. The unscrupulous Aldridge saw Beddy as 'fair game' until she told Moike and he threatened to "punch Brian's Lights out." - Loosely paraphrased from the AE.
message 8 It was not so much a job, sorry, I was Very Young at the time, and it seemed like a job to me then!
I am unfailingly impressed by the speed of response and colourful details supplied by Mlanders!
I remember poor Betty ruining JD's bone-handled fish knives by putting them in the dishwasher!
I also remember Brian trying it on with Betty, but it was very much one-sided. I presume Brenda is meant to have inherited her good looks from her mum.

Pat thought JD's fish knives were naff even then, Mircalla.

Oh! Rosie.....you make me feel so old. I remember the storyline distinctly and the slavery bit comes in when JennyDahling made poor Beddy act as waitress at her dinner-parties in the evening after skivvying and fighting off the lecherous Brine during the day. She made poor Beddy act as waitress after the bone-handled fish knife incident, instead of sacking her like a proper employer would. Beddy didn't want to act as waitress, but JD made poor Beddy pay for the fish knives with unpaid labour! That's slavery!

Did I imagine him chasing her around the kitchen table?
My minds eye does hold an incident like that, but on th whole Brine was a little more subtle, like always taking his lunch break when JD and family were out and of course making the outragious skinny-dipping suggestion. He did flatter Beddy continuously out of JD's earshot and made it quite clear that he would like to play 'hide the sausage' with Beddy!
Oh yes, the 'tenant exploitation' storyline was recently repeated when Tom and Brenda were living in a Home Farm cottage and Tom became free and always available labour for the Aldridge plantation.
