So--what else did I miss?

  Over on DTA it had to be explained to me (by several kind posters who were nevertheless amazed by my ignorance) that the posts I'd been reading by a particular poster (who I'd only really noticed that day) were written in a deliberate style for comic effect--and not only that, he was a well known poster with a 'profile' on the board. I have read all the 'messageboard FAQs, Mike's spat-o-meter etc---but over the past few days, I seem to have missed several salient points/in jokes. (Obtuse old me....must be my age....sigh.) Are there any other jokes or salient details that are not covered on the Messageboard FAQS? I often see references that it takes me a while to work out....or I don't get at all!

  Too many to list in a single posting, I'm afraid. In addition, posters have their own favourites and their own creations which they employ almost exclusively.
  Years ago I got into great trouble with other posters by referring to Caroline as "The Village Bike", then later awarding that title to Brenda. Both ladies are quite respectable these so the title (IMHO) is currently vacant.
  In years gone by some phrases were used to satisfy the moderators, so the word "socks" was a euphemism for, errmmm, gender (can't be too careful!).

  I think I did read on here that one poster is, in fact, HM the Queen?

  Definite in-joke there Mircalla - that would be Irene who has been absent for some time due to her computer blowing up.
  
  Honestly - you'd think they'd have more than one at Buck House wouldn't you? We've got 7 in our humble household!
