Is he retired now. Does he still live in Ambridge if so where?

Mr K stated some time ago that if we all paid attention to the programme we would discover what arrangements had been made for Higgs but I have heard exactly diddly squat so far. (Higgs used to act as Jeck's personal chauffeur and gardener, growing blooms for the F&PS and I do believe we have heard that he no longer does this, but the Bentley and Higg's behind it's wheel for the occasional outing: who knows?)

Aaaaargh (just noticed incorrect use of apostrophe). Also (famously) part of Higgs' job was falling off the ladder into the greenhouse for comic effect. And accompanying Jack and friends on stag night so he could drive them home, but then drinking so he couldn't.

Hilarious, indeed. In my trusty TBOTA, there purports to be a Higgs like character behind the photo of Arnold Peters, June Spencer, Captain, and the Bentley. He is certainly not credited, though he is sporting a full regalia of chaufferdom, so obviously he knows his place.

He was officially the handyman at Grey Gables and has retired.

Such a pity that we were not informed of this retirement.
So different from the average Archer Birthday which demands bunting and a day's holiday.

Yep, all I can recall, is Peggy saying, "Higgs is going to retire soon!" but went on using him to drive the car for ages.
And did he get a retirement gift? If so, what was it?
I think we should have been Told!

Well I have no recollection of his going having been mentioned.
I am sure Jack would occasionally refer to him although not know as if he is like another dementia sufferer I know, she rarely talks about anything except childhood things, which jack rarely does.

Maybe they gave him 'The Bentley', cos. They either don't have it any more or don't use it these days.

He grew chrysanthemums. He had a job at the Grey Gables garden Centre (run first by Tom Forrest, after he retired, then by Pru, then by a couple of professionals (Bailey? Bolton?), but, when I last asked what had happened to the Garden Centre, Keri wrote something like, "Shh! We don't talk about it!" or "We prefer to draw a veil over the subject!" so I think Mt. Barton/Burton may have done a Higgs, and retired). He was quite surly about the job at first, but found he had green fingers, and won prizes for "Woolley's Wonder" and similar 'mums.

According to the 2007 Who's Who in Ambridge, John Higgs "retired [as GG handyman] in 2006 but continues to provide silent service as the chauffeur of Jack Woolley's vintage Bentley."

Shockingly, he does not appear /at/ /all/ in WW2009 - not even as a silent!

Was there a collection Rosie, I'm sure I would have given, I do for everyone here at work, and I don't know them half of them either.

It is beginning to look as if the Higg's retirement debate is finally over, this time round for the time being, or not, maybe, perhaps!
What do YOU think, about this, or anything else?

Well, Lil, David and Ruth spent their money on Bert and Freda, the plasma screen thing, thousands of dosh, and he worked a mere couple of decades: but Higgs, faithful servant since 1966, did not get so much as a chocolate from the Woolley millions.

I've never understood why Jeck is so well regarded by everyone in Ambridge. He's never been the sharpest tool in the box and quite how he made his millions has never really been explained.
Even when he was compos mentis (sp?) he seemed headstrong and never willing to take advice; if it hadn't been for Caroline- for example - GGs would have been a moribund mausoleum of a hotel and probably have shut down. Jaxx Cafe and the Borchester Echo both seem to be more profitable since his involvement stopped.
I've always considered him to a 1940s spiv; he doesn't seem to have been in active service even though he wasin his late teens when the war started. A bit of fire watching during the blitz isn't good enough.
Did he made his fortune on the black market flogging nylons and petrol? (Whilst Dominatrix Peggy was flogging MPs and minor aristocracy?)

I was looking at an old Radio Times once (any article on Royalty or Star Trek/Dr Who will cause a copy to turn up in a bookshop at a high price) and saw that while everyone else in TA was listed by their first names, he was "Mr Wooley".
Link to this forum: What else did Higgs do apart from Chauffering JW around?
I, too, am perplexed about Higgs. I think we need the mystery solving. It would be much more convenient for Peggy if she had Higgs running Jack to the Day Centre instead of having to reply on taxis. Surely he still lives in the village and could help out at times like these?
Link to this forum: What else did Higgs do apart from Chauffering JW around?
Perhaps Higgs always hated Jack. We never heard him talk {pace above} but he was always muttering "Yes, Sir, I'll drive your Bentley for you, over a minefield, do sudden stops when you're leaning over, overhear your private conversations, take out my ladyfriends in the back seat, and you won't know a thing about it Sir. Hope you go mad after all the hard work I've put in with my subtle suggestions while you were snoring in the car, Sir."
No wonder he didn't get a farewell episode.

Higgs did get in trouble once, for taking the Bently to go and see one of his "lady-friends" in Hollerton, I think.

Well I NEVER heard him talk, yet.
It is still possible as he has not trugged of to be a chauffeur in the other world. I am sure he would be available for the panto and no doubt could assist build the spinning beanstalk!

No, higgs was asked by Jack to trimone of the trees when Peggy was out. John sat on the wrong side of the branch when he was sawing with unhilarious consequences. Peggy was outraged that he was not trimming the tree she'd wanted trimmed (ha! Jack and Higgs obviously knew that branch would crash this year! Snubbs to the poison one!)

Jack was on the roof at GG, trying to persaude Captian to come down, when Jack fell off and damaged himself slightly, diggerent incident, different people!
