Is it me or is anybody else having trouble listening to a past episode of the Archers? I clicked onto 鈥榯he latest episode鈥 on Saturday, only to hear Susan say鈥.鈥漌hat a week!鈥 which was the last line of Thursday鈥檚 episode.
I don鈥檛 read the message board very often so maybe this has already been discussed. All I know is I鈥檓 having such problems listening to past episodes I might give up altogether!
HeyRick
It's not just you. You might find the podcast a more reliable means of "listening again" at the moment:
Me too. And yes the podcast works. Any info from the 麻豆官网首页入口 on this?

I have been outside the UK for about two weeks now. I have an internet connection which is much slower and less reliable than broadband. But the podcast service still works very well, so I have not even attempted to use the "listen again".
Thanks to the 麻豆官网首页入口, from a relatively new addict, for providing Archers podcasts.

Listen Again was so much better for blind and partially sighted listeners, I couldn't see a mention of it being addressed in that article, keri, is there any info on it anywhere, or did I just miss seeing it in your link?
I haven't heard that point mentioned before. I'll raise it with the relevant people.
The Archer podcasts are great. Please do one for the Omnibus edition
We're working on it!
this gets a 5 out of ten. why? podcasts for the archers are "speech" so have no stereo content. I am also at loss as why they are encoded at 128/44 which really is unnecessary for speech. I record the omni edition "live" at 64/22 for the car CD. it is very adequate and has the stereo content, and is only 35MB as compared with a single day pod cast at 13MB, so I use half the disk budget *and* get the stereo content. The 麻豆官网首页入口 could usefully save some bandwidth costs by cutting the sampling rates.

But by missing out every third day they have already lowered the average sampling rate,,,

That's not actually correct, Luitpold.
Radio drama is recorded with a full stereo picture, and the podcasts are in stereo.
I would disagree with you that an encoding rate suitable for a studio-based chat show is adequate for the dynamic range and subtlety of radio drama.
I take back the bit on the stereo content. Maybe I need a new car. However there is no doubt that the MP3 encoder you use throws out audio above around 15kHz, so sampling at 44kHz has little benefit. Anyway I'm now too old to hear it; when I realized I couldn't hear the TV line scan I tested myself, nothing above 14kHz!

Luitpold2, the 麻豆官网首页入口 use a lower sampling rate on their podcasts of World Service documentaries. Unfortunately, my (hardware) Media Player considers it "non-standard" and plays them at a "standard" sample rate, resulting in the "Pinky and Perky" effect. At least The Archers plays at the right speed.
Not all of us are au fait with podcasts - are we going to lose out if LA keeps breaking down?

There's no special knowledge required to download a podcast. You don't need in iPod or other mp3 player, just a computer.
Go to:
Then just select the episode you want and click on the "Download Episode" button.
Thanks for taking the time to give me this info Keri. I hadn't realised listen again and podcasts were the same...until my son informed me yesterday! I was confused by the fact that though I could listen to single episodes, when I tried to listen to an omnibus I'd missed, Microsoft kept telling me I needed to download something called Java Script.

At the risk of confusing you again, they aren't actually the same thing, but that's not important as long as you know how easy it is to access one if the other is playing up.
I have been getting the podcasts for the past few weeks - and no failures. There is no doubt that this is the way to go. At least if you have a hi-speed DSL (takes me a few seconds per episode at 16Mbit). One correspondent asked somewhere about the omni edition as a podcast. Any progress on this? BTW I do have a new car and can now enjoy the Archers just like being back in Blighty!

This is progressing, but is subject to negotiations with talent unions. It will happen, I'm sure, but I couldn't say when.
Hello Mr Keri. I've been having trouble with the Archers podcasts for the past ten days and can't work out why.
Everything was fine until about Friday 10th October, but now, although I can open or save them, I cannot download it them to iTunes as I used to be able to do. I haven't done anything different to my PC, so am very puzzled. I can still download the News Quiz podcast and can also download the Archers to iTunes on my PC at work.
I should be grateful for any advice.
Thanks.
Jenny

It sounds as if you have a problem specific to your personal PC, then, but I'm not an expert in this area. Can any else offer any suggestions?
Thanks for your reply, Keri.
The problem seems to have resolved itself, but I've no idea how. I opened iTunes on my laptop this morning and received a message to the effect that the Archers podcasts were not being downloaded because I hadn't listened to any recent episodes. Well, no, because they weren't being downloaded - bizarre - but I'm pleased that it's working again.

Never mind past episodes - I cannot get tonight's. I have tried LA, catch-up for Wednesday and my podcast download and they are all for Tuesday.

You mean, the cast and SWs will get an extra wedge for our pleasure? Bring back the Radio License fee!

Hurrah - can finally listen! Thank you, Bear in the Bull. Was close to having a tantrum.
No, I can't see Wednesday's podcast either, but did manage to listen at 7.02.
When it's all working, it's great, but it's not reliable.

Bear, thank you. I was having withdrawal symptoms, particularly as it is still not there in my podcast.
