Discussing TA with a long lapsed listener she mentioned that when she listened with mother a character contracted lock jaw. None of could remember who or when. Someone did suggest Tony about 30 years ago. Any one know who it was and did they survive? (which would mean it wasn't Tony)
Pretty sure it was Neil Carter
He was working for Phil at the time. I may be wrong though as I know he got Viles disease (SP?), so could have been someone else with the dreaded lockjaw.

Tony got lockjaw from a rusty nail, and went into hospital for so long that Pat decided to stop taking the Pill. When he came out, she was unprotected. Hence Tommy.
Neil got Weill's disease from Rat's wee.
I recall Tony contracting lockjaw and being seriously ill with it. What I also remember was someone saying to him, as he was recovering in hospital, that he had been lucky. Tony's (typical) response that he wasn't lucky, just unlucky to have been infected at all. Tony's glass is always half empty!

The rusty nail was from a railway sleeper wasn't it? Watch out Ruth! It was c1978 as I was in university and started listening to the Archers because my room mate did and have listened since.

They are oing to use concrete railway sleepers!
But maybe she could drop one on her foot, and be confined to barracks for 6 weeks, unable to trot around the village being Emma Woodhouse?
