Why do we have to have such a limited voice input for Rory?
I would be interested to know how often recordings are made with the young Irish lad. Surely someone in the UK could record these pieces. Do they record a lot of little phrases like "OK" and "Goodbye"? Why go to the expense of going outside the UK for this small part?
Did I say something wrong here? I am sorry if I have posted in the wrong place or something. Perhaps I should write to "Points of View".

Frank (excellent poster-name, one of my all-time favourite characters btw), you haven't said anything wrong!
It's just that the person who tends to answer this sort of N&Q doesn't look in here every day (Keri Davies), at least I'm assuming he doesn't, so one just has to be patient.
(Having said that, I never did get an answer to why David once said "Jill said" instead of "Mum said"...).
Thanks for the prompt reply StirchleyAdult. I was beginning to worry that people were ignoring me, not that the real Frank Barone would worry.

You're welcome, Frank; I'm sure everyone on here has had at least one of those "Hmmph! what makes my posts so invisible?" moments, I certainly have.

Keri's away for a few days (in New York, lucky thing). Keep this thread on page one of N&Q and I'm sure he'll respond when he returns.
I'd imagine that Ruairi's one line the other day was recorded a long time ago when he had a more prominent role; it would probably have made sense to have recorded a whole heap of stock phrases that would be likely to crop up in scripts from time to time. Therefore no special trip to Ireland to record this phrase would have been necessary. But that's just my guess.

It's the way every kid says 'all right' at the end of every request by adults. I have NEVER heard any child say this ever. Why do they keep doing it?

I'm another fan of the other Frank Barone!
It's the sing song voice that gets me with Roorry. He gets baby talked down to by JD, and since he is now at school, it just isn't on.

Sorry JD babytalks people who have LEFT school, let alone just gone there!
Presumably, they'll recast soon, as Ruauri will lose any Irish accent.
I suppose you could record about a dozen stock phrases and cover most eventualities;
all right
ok
I'm hungry
goodbye
hello
can I have one?
Here's to our wives and girlfriends:May they never meet!
Back from New York now.
The lines are recorded for us nowadays; we don't have to send someone over any more, so it's no more expensive than getting a few lines from Ben or Josh.
Thanks Keri. Technology is great isn't it?
Remember when Shula used to do all the childrens parts. Happy days!

You canNOT be serious? All that unctuous Judy Bennett RP? She was all Janet to nobody's John.
I think it was a good day when the editorial board decided to record proper children's voices, and whatever abuse is heaped on such children / child actors - and it is a shabby reflection on some threads that such gleeful poison is liberally showered on the kids rather than their benighted SWs - it adds a dimension to TA that a plethora of Bennett clones would never have imparted.
