Can anyone remind me why, after having done much heartsearching & gone to great lengths to get approval, Oliver & Caroline ceased fostering? Was it just the workload of Grey Gables & the farm or were they put off by one of their foster children? I think they had two didn't they and occasionally mention the girl (Carly?)
Thanks

Caro didn't want to do it originally, but was talked into it by patronising Peregrine, who, when the only one of his 3 children he was on speaking terms with went to the States (obviously, this meaning he could never visit) suddenly decided he'd like to "try and get it right" by experimenting on the children of others. They had 2 or 3 weekenders we heard very little about, then Bruno for a couple of months, and then the same for Carly.
When Caro and Oliver bought the hotel, Caro immediately said, "We shall have to give up fostering - we shall be /far/ too busy!"* and Oliver equally quickly agreed.
*Although shortly afterwards she was heard to say, "There aren't too many guests, thank goodness, so I'm off to the hairdresser!" or similar

Rosie, I hope you are not suggesting that this was a mere whim on Olly and Caro's part ? I should imagine that the local Social Services must take a pretty dim view of the pair's rather brief foray in fostering.

Whim on the scriptwriters part, I think. Well, the prod-team, anyway.
Not really. But it seemed to us that their joint workload, and Oliver's age, made it a natural end point for their fostering endeavours.

i.e.
(That's enough fostering - Ed)
Oliver has more-or-less adopted Ed, and Caroline has William as God son, which is enough complications for anyone.
