In the MB FAQ, these days (<.
It is a widely understood fact that actor's voices 'sound different' much more often than they are actually replaced. However Matt has certainly gone through a few changes recently and seems to be being 're-positioned' from the stock pantomime baddy to a more rounded character who can be used more widely in story developments. Along with this comes a wider range of intonations and tones to add to the brute sarcasm he does so well.
But I do find the new gentle caring Matt does sound a bit strange at times and (dare I say it) a bit more like an actor than most people you meet.
Do you think so? I thought it was just him rising to the occasion.

From his usual pond life persona, you mean? In which case, I agree ... I think he's a character from V in humanoid skin: prick him as green blood will come out.
It's just a coincidence that occasionally he shows a fleeting resemblance to humankind
Make him say "ruddy"
