According to your link she was born on 25 Feb 1922 but I agree it's about time we heard she'd popped her clogs.

She is only 86. Why should she 'pop her clogs'?
Didn't she and Reg try to interfere with the upbringing of wee Daniel (also a very quiet person theses days)?
A bit unlikely that she would willingly take a back seat.
Wasn't she on the bench with Phil?

Really? That Phil is a bit of an old dog, isn't he?
on the bench with Phil?Â
Bench, what bench, with or without Phil?
Oh, she is Mark's Ma, are we sure?

Myra Prestwick (Mimi) was a fellow magistrate with Phil. I don't think Mark's mum, Audrey (Bunty) Hebden was a JP.

Tolkny, Bunty and Reg Hebdon are the parents of Mark Heben, who was Shula's first husband. They are Daniel Hebdon-Lloyd's Grandparents.
As I recall, they never features much as speaking characters except when they wanted Shula to send Daniel to a public school and even offered to pay. I believe that Daniel vists them on a regular basis but it's just one of many things that happens outside the 13 minutes 6 days a week we get to hear.
thanks Polly, that was what I had thought prior to the comments about a possible liaison for Phil.
THE END

According to my trusty TBOTA, Bunty Hebden was played by Sheila Allen: as I can't remember her at all, even with my fount of completely useless information, I would have thought that she was a very minor character.
Married to Reg, and two children: Mark and Joanna...

Joanna was to have been Shula's bridesmaid, at the time of the first wedding, I think: and Shula thought Jo was Too Fat, and made her go on a diet.
When they actually did get married, either Joanna wanted nothing to do with it, or she was even fatter, or Shula didn't want Mark's slim sister outdoing herv - anyway, the scripties forgot about her bridesmaiding.

Does anyone else remember a conversation between Mark and his parents when they found out that he was taking on Usha in his law practice, and Bunty accused him of "tokenism" or something?

What is Bunty 'short' for please? I could Google it but, as ever, the explanations and examples are much more stimulating here in ML.
Other than monotonous Mark's mother-in-law the only other time I've heard of Bunty was the comic my sister used to buy in the early 1970s. (And even then it was anachronistic and my sister moved on 'Jackie' which would be laughed at by todays' early teen girls though recent annuals have proved to be good Christmas present for 40 something women.)
On those lines I still don't understand how 'Peggy' could possibly be a variant of Margaret.

Bunty Hebden's name is really Audrey.
Family friend, Bunty, was Barbara.
