Where did this spring from - I do not remember hearing of one before, even in Ambridge?
Was it mentioned before? Is it in aid of a good cause?
I'd like to know which member of the production team experienced it, if possible.

Yes - a dramatic device to get St Shugs and TVOA in the same room together, and to show us that Jill is fully engaged in the festives, following her failure to preside over Stir Up Sunday. References on the main MB to mince pies not being shop bought - home made mince meat from scratch? How much time have these people got on their hands?

I used to make my own mincemeat, before I retired and had less time. It's dead simple - melt marge, pour it over the dried fruit, grated apple, sugar, cinnamon etc in the bowl, slug in a load of brandy, leave overnight and pot.
Since Ambridge's Good Cause is providing booze for the cricket team, I thought it might be that.

New to me, too. I'll ask the writer.

Top notch! Glad it's not just us dumb pensioner listeners who are cofused!

I think it's a new idea, according to the Vicar there was a proposal to have one here but it didn't meet with any support.

Please would you ask her what the point is? Does everyone pay to go in, or is it just a social?

I think the idea is a bring and share, don't think it is meant to be money raising.
I've just done some Googling and all the mentions I can see have it on Advent Sunday after Church (which makes sort of sense) rather than a stray Thursday in December.

Is this where cooking meets gardening?

Thank you (and the Vic).
It did seem a rather pointless lunch.

Can you please reassure us that this isn't some insidious extension of the swap club?

Ah - my mind must have wandered. I observed a get together in the conservatory with lead piping, but was unaware of its significance.
Mince pies and embarrassment seemed to be the main ingredients.
Thank you Rosie for directing me here. It is good to see we all get confused together. I am feeling saner. Thanks again.

Did you ever find out, please, Keri?
I'm sorry, I thought I'd responded to this.
It's pretty much as Vicarshusband has it in message 8 above.
The timing is down to the exigences of casting and storylines.
